VERY LONG but tells the whole experience this was on 7/1/25 I recently visited Central Bakery to place an order for my daughter’s birthday cake. A young brunette employee took my order, and we began discussing the cake details. I showed her an inspiration photo and asked for pink whipped icing. She informed me that they couldn’t do pink whipped icing and it would have to be pink buttercream instead. That was fine with me — I just wanted the cake to look like the photo. However, she quickly went to the back to check with another employee. When she returned, she said they would not take the order because the cake might not turn out right and they didn’t want to deal with the “stress” of it. She also said she would try to call the manager — who wasn’t there — to check, but I never saw her actually make a call, so I don’t know if she ever did. I explained that the cake was a standard 9-inch, double-layer cake — not overly complicated — and that I really wanted to keep the order local. I even offered to compromise by adjusting the decorations or skipping certain elements to make it easier for them. Despite being flexible and polite, she gave several reasons why they couldn’t accommodate my order, including that the lead cake decorator wasn’t available on the days I needed the cake. Then another young blonde employee came from the back, looked at me and very bluntly told the brunette girl to “just say our manager said no.” She then told me, in a rude and unprofessional tone, to take my business to one of the two other bakeries in town. At that point, I was truly shocked and disappointed. I had done everything I could to make the order easy for them, and I was still turned away without genuine effort or customer care. When I asked the brunette girl for the blonde employee’s name, she refused to give it to me. I told her I would return to speak with the manager, but after how I was treated, I no longer feel comfortable having them make my daughter’s cake even if the manager agreed. To be honest, I don’t believe speaking to the manager would change anything. It feels like a waste of time. What matters now is that others know how poorly I was treated. As a local business, I expected much better customer service, and instead, I walked away feeling dismissed, frustrated, and disrespected.
I had a very disappointing experience at Central Bakery when trying to order a simple birthday cake for my daughter. I was told they couldn’t do pink whipped icing, which I was willing to compromise on, but then they refused to take my order entirely, saying it was “too stressful” to make. Despite being flexible and polite, I was met with excuses and unprofessional behavior — including one employee telling me to take my business elsewhere in a very rude tone. As a local customer, I expected better service. I no longer feel comfortable doing business with them and wouldn’t recommend them based on how I was treated.
Local favorite for sweet treats.
Best baked goods in Asheboro. Friendly service and good prices. Recommend.
Gingerbread Cookies and Cakes were delicious!
Everything I got here was mediocre. Cupcakes were dry and bland. Oatmeal cream pie and gingerbread cookie were just ok. Nothing was “wow!” When I’m in the area again, I will not be returning.
This bakery always smells so sweet and delicious. The treats are amazing. My family has also had many cakes from here for multiple occasions. This bakery is awesome!
I ordered a birthday cake for my daughter a week in advance from Central Bakery. It was ready on time and looked beautifully decorated — we were really excited to try it. Unfortunately, the excitement didn’t last. As soon as we cut into the cake and tasted it, we were extremely disappointed. The icing had a cheap, grainy texture — almost sandy — like the sugar hadn’t been properly dissolved. It completely ruined the experience.
This was our first time ordering from Central Bakery, and sadly, it will also be our last. A birthday cake should taste just as good as it looks, and this one fell far short.
Awesome experience she made me a special cake for a special friend

LET ME TELL YOU I stopped by here in a rush, on the way to a friend’s get together. I needed a dessert to bring. I chose an assorted box of cookies (tiny sanddollar cookies ?, assorted sugar cookies with sprinkles, choc chunk, snickerdoodle) and I didn’t even get a chance to try any!! Everyone at the party raved about how great the cookies were! That’s when you know it’s good ❤️❤️I stopped by today and bought some of the same cookies for my family and they loved it! I highly recommend. Their cookies are not overly sweet which I love.
