Hands-down, the nastiest coleslaw I’ve ever eaten in my life Beef ribs were not even close to being cooked correctly… no smoke all sauce.
Hush puppies were amazing!

The best BBQ spot in Asheboro! Their bbq sauce is vinegar based and available in sweet or hot. I typically get the pulled pork plate and hush puppies (make sure to grab the honey butter by the condiment area!) and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a reliable spot with good portion sizes. Their cobblers and banana pudding are yummy too! Good food and the service is quick and friendly. The establishment is clean and spacious with lots of seating inside.

Not my favorite style BBQ, it is a bit mush, I like a bit more course chop, so my fault since I ordered the regular chopped plate. The bbq slaw or red slaw was very good to my liking. French fries are just a frozen crinkle cut style so nothing great there! Now to the best part of the meal the hushpuppies, man those where the best i have every had and that is a lot of hushpuppies over the years, just a hint of onion in those but fried just right!

Worse Bar-B-Q ever. This place came recommend from a store owner in downtown Asheboro so we thought we would try it. Pulled pork had no taste and was served with water underneath the pork . So weird. I am from the south and had some mighty fine Bar-B-Q this was not even close. Would give 0 stars if it were an option.

The poorest representation of pork ribs and beef ribs I've seen/eaten in a restaurant. Zero seasoning, no smoke or other flavor. Fries were good. Slaw was good and were the hushpuppies. We did not try the chopped pork bbq---that probably is what keeps them in business. A good chopped pork bbq plate. Someone needs to reconsider what they are serving as ribs here, truly not good.

We made our first visit to Henry James BBQ and it's in an older part of town. It's an older restaurant so keep that in mind in regards to the atmosphere. The service is decent. There is no table service. It is counter service only. The food we came on a Tuesday night and evidently they only do the barbecue ribs. I want to say Thursday, Friday Saturday but we were not anywhere close so had to reconfigure what we were going to get as there was no way to prepare for this. I did get the chopped barbecue and one of the other members of our group got slice barbecue. The slice barbecue is better than the chopped. I'll say that right now. The coleslaw is very finely chopped, so it has an interesting texture and not received well by everyone who tried it at the table, but there were a few that did like it. So it's one of those things that is kind of a personal textural preference. We did of course have the corn dogs and fries for the small ones. The green beans not bad if they were canned beans then they did a good job of covering the can taste. The sweet potato fries are spot on and are the star of the show!
We did have dessert. We tried: strawberry cobbler not received well. Too much like a jam and too sweet, we did get it with an ice cream which is interesting and it did look more homemade or very old fashioned vanilla ice cream and it was tasty. The peach cobbler was really good and there was a lot of it and the ice cream with the peach cobbler paired very well. We did try the banana pudding which was putting with chopped up nilla wafers and whipped cream. There were no actual bananas in the banana pudding that we had and it was okay... The other big star was the Oreo chocolate delight. Everybody liked it and that is the big winner!
I would like to go back again to try their barbecue ribs. It seems like it's very popular and Henry James has a long history in Asheboro so I'm very interested in coming back and trying maybe some of the other sides that they have and the ribs. Would not do the desserts again with the exception of the Oreo chocolate delight.
Oh I forgot. They do have refills on the sodas and the coffee and tea so that's nice as well.
