Third time eating here and loved every single visit. The staff are friendly and efficient. Don always comes to say hello. In the past we've done the chicken and dumplings which are delicious and as is the fried chicken and every side we've tried. This visit we did the spring salad with grilled chicken. Had mixed greens, dried cranberries, grapes, strawberry, walnuts, feta, and chose the strawberry vinaigrette. Super fresh and delightful. And today we got to have Don's bologna burger which comes with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, cole slaw, and chili. Ordered it without chili but Don came by and convinced us to go with the chili. He says bologna is like hot dogs and if you go all the way on hot dogs then go all the way on the bologna burger. It was great but super messy. It's a first come first seated and you wait at the back of the restaurant for a seat. Worth stopping in for great food and lovely staff

This was our second visit to Magnolia 23. Both experiences have been excellent. First time we ordered chicken and dumplings they are best I’ve ever had! Today I tried country style steak wife ordered fried chicken both very good but I prefer the dumplings better then my grandma’s. Sides are always delicious collards and best potato salad in NC Desserts blackberry cobbler and persimmon pudding Excellent. Don the owner takes time to visit with his guests and treats everyone like family We travel from Hickory to Chapel Hill frequently In the future we will stop here for our lunch.

We stopped at this place on our way to Asheboro Zoo! There was some wait but once we got a table the service was prompt. This is as authentic Southern food as it gets, and one of the best fried chickens I have had!

Magnolia 23 in Asheboro, NC was a pleasant surprise. My wife and I were visiting the NC zoo and looking for a good place to eat. The internet provided a number of options and we decided we wanted to experience some good southern cooking. We settled on Magnolia 23. We both had the fried chicken (dark meat). The chicken was lightly breaded and fried in cast iron. It was perfectly crisp on the outside and moist on the inside, and delicious. For my sides I had the collard greens, which were the best I've had. I also had yams that were very good. My wife had stewed potatoes and slaw, both very good. The staff is friendly and the owner personally checks on each table to be sure everything is satisfactory. I highly recommend Magnolia 23 as the go to place in Asheboro. We will be back.

I drove 70 miles one way to dine for the first time. I ordered all white fried chicken, green beans, potato salad and cornbread. My beverage was sweet tea. Oh yes, I also got a slice of the butter pecan cake. The meal was absolutely superb!!! I will visit again but no time soon since it's a little far but this was my special treat. I did meet the owner- he was the most hospitable. The atmosphere reminded me of yesteryear in in my grandmother's dining room. The ambiance is great! Truly southern food at its best. My husband was a chef and I do know good food. Oh yes, the sanitation rating was very good for I noticed this where I go.😋

A hidden gem. This restaurant has been around for sometime it’s small so it is easily missed by tourists. Not a lot of locals honestly don’t know about it. It’s home cooking at its finest. Family owned and operated. The owner comes around to every table to make sure you’re satisfied and thanks you personally for your patrons. Fried chicken persimmon pudding are to of my favorite.

To sum it all up, Magnolia 23 is the embodiment of Southern Hospitality at its finest. Absolutely LOVE it and will be coming back as long as I'm alive and well, and they're open! Fried chicken is out of this world, as with everything else I've tried there. You can definitely feel and taste the love that goes into what they do. I recommend the collard greens (w/ vinegar on the side), yams, dinner roll (w/ butter), and, of course no southern meal would be complete without a mason jar full of freshly brewed sweet iced tea. We love you, Doris and Don!

Parking: Parking lot is located behind the restaurant and normally you have to pay the automated attendant if it's working.

Great place. Wonderful staff and owners. Don't know if they were short staffed or not but the owner was wiping tables and sweeping the floor. Lead by example.

Wife and I both had Reuben sandwiches with Potato Salad. Now, we are self-proclaimed "Reuben Snobs". We have had Reubens in 25 to 30 states. Some great - others meh. Magnolia 23's Reuben is at the top of the list. There was the right combination of thick cut Pastrami, the right amount of Sauerkraut, Thousand Island Dressing and you can taste the Caraway in the Rye bread which was not over toasted.

We also had the Potato Salad. It was the 2nd best I have ever had. (My Wife makes a mean Potato Salad and might read this review so...). Creamy with plenty of pickles.

We "never" eat dessert at restaurants. But they had my Wife's favorite cake - Yellow cake with Chocolate frosting. Now, I'm not big on chocolate but I split it with her. Holy cow was it good. The cake was fresh and moist. And the frosting, wow. Creamy, not overly SWEEET. Just sweet enought.

And to think, We went on Wednesday so we could have the Fried Chicken. If you want to know about that, I'm sure there are reviews. Definitely will be back in a week or so for that.

We definitely recommend Magnolia 23.

Parking: There is a paid parking lot behind the restaurant (which has a rear entrance). We parked on the street in front of the Courthouse.
