Can’t wait to have the crab mac and cheese again! I also had the spicy pork bao and the j*** chicken entree. The chicken was so tender and the slaw was incredible! I’ll probably go for the fritters and coconut curry next time. Oh, don’t bring anyone here who can’t handle flavor and spice.

BEST FOOD IN 49 STATES!!! Amazing flavors, presentation, service, ambiance, choices, and prices!!! I can not say one negative things about this place except, I am completely envious that this restaurant is not in my hometown. YOU HAVE TO TRY IT! It is an eclectic twist to island style food that does not run out of flavors. The flavors are genuine and not just store bought sauces. The meat was succulent and not over spiced. Empanadas we’re out of this world and had a different flavor profile and texture I have never experienced before. If you are ready to go on a culinary adventure, you have to try this place! I’m telling you, you will not regret it! I can tell a lot of heart and soul was put into the food. So many meat options as well as veggie options to meet every palate. You will not be upset with anything you try. The bartender gave great suggestions and I wish I tried even more.

I am a foodie and I'm not impressed easily BUT this place is amazing! They serve the best j*** I've had since going to the Caribbean. I started with the crab mac au gratin and my daughter had the conch fritters. The mac was savory and bursting with flavor. For my entree I had the j*** salmon. It was cooked perfectly and the pineapple salsa was the perfect touch on top. Check this place out you will not be disappointed!

I brought my wife and daughter here at least 6-7 times. We have had great experiences each time and have even had a few friends come out with us on several occasions. Will start with the cons. Fine dining isn’t fast food and we know that! Caribbean food by design also takes a lot of skill and preparation to create. 2 of the times we came our wait was relatively long but there is also a significant issue with the staffing shortage in our economy so I’m sure that contributed! The food is delicious, presentation is on point, flavor is impeccable leaves nothing to be desired. Entree we had the conch fritters and the calypso sauce is so good, we also indulged in the Hennessy wings and the Thai chili they both set our taste buds off, very flavorful and unique taste. They had a rum punch which was a fruity cocktail with rums well worth the price as they crept up on us. Saw a lot of complaints about the pricing of mixed drinks and beers but it’s pretty standard pricing for restaurants! Entrees we had the cracked conch meal which we found out was actually brought and imported straight from the Bahamas, we also had the steamed snapper replaced the grits for peas and rice, and then my daughter got an adjusted paella with shrimp and conch left off the other meats her plate was cleaned and she doesn’t each much…. I could go on and on about the positives about this place but I think you’ll have to just go try it for yourself…Many pros, wait time is a con and staffing issues is a con but if time is on your side they will satisfy taste wise!!!

My husband and I went for lunch today, our first visit to The Bun Hut and boy have we been sleeping on this this place! From the moment we arrived we were greeted immediately by friendly, smiling faces. Because food is made fresh to order expect to wait just a few minutes longer than you may at chain restaurants but trust me you won’t be disappointed. While we waited we were served drinks immediately followed by seasoned plantain chips. Our conch fritter appetizer soon followed. You think “oh, conch fritters, no big deal” and you’d be wrong. We relocated here from Florida where conch is on nearly everyone’s menu. These are fantastic and the coconut rum infused calypso aioli sauce. Oh my goodness…. THE SAUCE.My husband ordered tamarind braised oxtail with garlic mashed potatoes and I the Bahamian spiced creole snapper with coconut and spinach infused yellow grits and sweet plantains. To start the presentation was beautiful and abundant. But that definitely took a back seat to the flavor. Everything was absolutely delicious. The servings were so generous we both have a second full portion for dinner tonight. We completed our meal by sharing a single portion of Granny’s Sweet Island Coconut Tart. Light, sweet, a perfect ending to our meal. When you go (and make it soon) ask for Sonia. She’s perfected the attentive not intrusive balance. She felt like a friend I haven’t seen in a while with her welcoming smile, witty humor, and willingness to offer menu suggestions. Chef Ray was outstanding today! We will be back soon.

Just had the best meal I've had in a long time. My wife ask legitimately why was this chef even in such a small town. We started with conch fritters that were delicious. We then shared coconut shrimp with mango chutney, plantain mashed, sauted veggies and slaw. The shrimp were fresh and seasoned to perfection. Lastly we for tamarind oxtail with mashed potatoes, pickled onions and more slaw. We were in heaven. We ask to talk to the chef and complimented him for his skills. The service was great and very friendly.

The food was absolutely top notch. Chef Mackey came out to talk to us about his journey in bringing the islands to North Carolina. If you have ever been to the islands, this will take you back. If you have never been, you are in for a real treat! The oxtail is fall-off-the-bone tender and a rare treat. The coconut shrimp were perfectly offset by fresh mango chutney. Conch fritters had the bite of the islands, and the sides of slaw and sauteed greens are worth the trip themselves. We went on a Monday and it was not busy. Service was friendly and she offered suggestions based on our taste. The drink menu is delightful! Just what you would expect from an island restaurant. This is a little paradise in downtown Asheboro!!Run, don't walk!

Vegetarian options: Several options for vegetarian meals were on the menu.

Kid-friendliness: Kid menu with kid friendly options.

Absolutely Amazing!! Cannot wait to come back. Had the West Indian Oxtail Curry and the J*** Chicken! J*** chicken had just the right amount of spicy and the Oxtail was perfectly balanced between savory and sweet! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

The good: Food was amazing, staff was super friendly. The bad: Food was very slow and did not hit the table at the same time (20 minutes passed from the time the first plate hit the table to the last). For the amount of money that they charge for their entrees and everything, this was greatly disappointing. The ugly: This is a split level restaurant and it was a challenge for the waitresses to maintain coverage. But this is a staffing shortage issue and we all know how that is going right now.Normally if I had this situation I would rate the restaurant a lot lower but because the food was so damn good and delicious they get four stars. I think it was worth the wait. I don't suggest going in a large group. It seemed like the tables that just had two to four people were able to be turned quickly but we had a large group of seven. And I think that may have contributed to some of the issues we experienced.I hope has this restaurant grows it gets more quality staff and their groove in the kitchen to expedite better.

The place is absolutely amazing. To have a restaurant like this in Asheboro and not have to drive 30 minutes or more for this type food is a good thing. The food was out of site and and staff did a great job. You can tell the chef puts his heart in the meals he prepared. To Ray and the crew continue doing what you do. I will defiantly be back and support your business 100%.

We sat down in an empty restaurant, saw the prices, and I immediately began reading reviews. They were 50/50 at best. We were there for a quick lunch and weren't really interested in drinking ($$$) or the main entrée menu, which is a tad pricey. We stuck to the cheaper side of the menu and anxiously waited it out after reading what others said. When the food came, it all came together. For a second, I almost felt like we were under paying. The food was beautiful and delicious. I'd honestly never tasted that particular flavor pallet on pork before. A new experience was super cool. All that's to say, we walked in and considered leaving, but I'm so glad we didn't. I'll definitely be back for dinner some time when I'm in the area.

This was my first time going and my girlfriend second time at this establishment. You have to try the Haitian crispy griot a braised and fried pork and we had the Hennessey sweet chili ginger sauce on it. I had the curried goat it was amazing and my girlfriend had the island j*** salmon which she loved. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was amazing.

Worth the wait. The food was a amazing. Like seriously, this isn’t your normal Randolph county food. If your looking for a taste of Trinidad and the Bahamas with that Asian Bao twist (think sliders) go no further. I can’t stress how good this food was. Compliments to Chef Ray and his family.
