Great historic Inn. The staff is absolutely wonderful.

Nearby activities: Downtown Waynesville is 20 minutes away.
An entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway is within 10 minutes of the property.

Wanted to a last minute getaway for my husband's birthday. Also wanted to help a small merchant in hopes to help with the hurricane recovery. The inn is huge and I'm sure a lot of work, however the rooms were not nice at all. Mismatch furniture, no TV, no hairdryer, no amenities at all. Room had spiders, the wall fireplace remote didn't work and was filthy. The worst part was the so call bar. We ordered 2 Buffalo Trace drinks and they charged us $27 a piece. I mentioned it to 2 different employees and never heard anything back. I mentioned it again when we were checking out and was told that they researched and compared thier prices to other local establishments and priced accordingly. I can't think of any place that charges $27 for one drink. Oh and the crappy room was $200 a night with a minimum of 2 nights. Very very disappointed and obviously will not return. A free drink or a discount on the room would have prevented this review.

This inn is a beautiful experience. We felt like we stepped back in time. The location is close to Sylva and GSMNP. Cute antique decor. Cozy rooms. Excellent place to unplug, no TV's in rooms! Large front porch to sit and relax. Everyone was friendly.
Only complaints
- there was a lot of water damage to the wood behind tub.
- under the bed was not swept.

We just moved to the area and stopped by to check it out. The owner opened the door for us as we arrived, gave us a quick tour and talked bourbon with my husband. We wandered throughout this HUGE place and it's absolutely gorgeous. Clearly a lot of work and love has been put into it. Can't wait to come back and check out the community events. 👍😎

Requires you to give 31 days advanced notice to cancel a reservation and get your money back even after the storm pretty much decimated the area. I had booked a room to attend a wedding in the area but it got canceled because of the hurricane, they would not give me my money back. Poor service and outrageous cancellation policy, please be aware of this horrendous policy before you book

According to their website, the place had a restaurant and bar open and appeared to be a fully functional hotel. Terrible 2-night stay - December 2023. Place was barely open, no front desk staff, no restaurant or bar open, and only 2 rooms occupied. Central heating system run by a boiler - historic and fine, but gives no room control. On 2nd night, they turned off the heat altogether! And I sought this place out because it was an historic property. Bunk.

Cute little quaint Inn nestled back in the woods!! The staff was excellent today. The company I work for booked it for a small retreat.
Would definitely recommend

Noteworthy details: Lots of the old detail still left in the building. Beautiful place

Balsam Mountain Inn is one of my favorite places to stay when visiting the Western Carolina area. The location is perfect, just between Sylva and Waynesville. The Blue Rigde Parkway is minutes away, and it's down the street from Barber Apple Orchard. The Inn is being restored beautifully, keeping with tradition, which I appreciate. The Inn has a small bar area and a large front porch to relax. The staff was so friendly and polite, it just made our experience even more special. So if you are looking for a historical experience that has beautiful scenery and is truly peaceful, then the Balsam Mountain Inn is the best kept secret in the mountains.

Beautiful historic hotel. Felt like stepping back in time. Wonderful friendly staff. Had a wonderful conversation with an employee named Dale who was very sweet and had good recommendations for the area. I was initially very worried about the hotel not having any A/C in the rooms but with the low being 65° last night and the box window fan + the ceiling fan we actually had to use the thicker comforter because we actually got too cold during the night. The only cons: the bed was a rock and could feel the springs. Really could use upgraded mattresses. I know the hotel is still under renovations so hopefully this will be updated in the future. Also hotel had no bottled water, had to get cups of water from the bar before heading to bed.The next morning we did learn about a water fountain on the wall of the first floor that has drinkable well water but would still have liked the option to purchase water bottles from the fridge where they sell soda bottles.

I only visited the bar, but the staff was very nice and the service was good. I liked the charm in what I saw of the old inn.
