Coffee Shop No. 493
Bald Guy Brew
Blowing Rock, NC
April 9, 2025
I was instantly drawn to this shop because of their name. Bald Guy Brew! The logo might be one of my favorites of all the coffee shops I have visited. Sadly, my barista had hair 😉and there were no stickers. Not only do I enjoy cortados, but I have a thing for stickers from coffee shops. I should use that hashtag. #coffeeshopstickers I can’t be the only 80’s baby who has a thing for stickers from coffee shops.
The setting of the Bald Guy Brew is picturesque. It sits at the end of a busy street in a little mountain village. Chairs and tables are set up outside. We actually soaked in some sun before I walked in and bought a cortado.
The shop was aesthetically pleasing with different colors of wood, black borders and accents, and plenty of natural light. My gaze was immediately drawn toward one of the most beautiful Kyoto-style slow drip coffee tower I’ve ever seen. The live edge of the tower was stunning and it hung majestically on the wall. I couldn’t help but stand there and admire it for a bit. The atmosphere was relaxing and peaceful. I could have sat there all day in the coffee shop.
The cortado’s description on the menu, “A ‘cortado’ is a serving of espresso that is cut with an equal part, or slightly more, of warm milk,” made me hesitate. I was worried it gave the barista freedom to turn my cortado into a flat white; which happens often. But I noticed the word “cut” in the description so I went ahead and ordered the cortado (I know…having coffee drama or problems is a tough life). The cortado was delicious served at a perfect temperature with a good ratio of milk to espresso.
Enjoying life one cortado at a time!

Even if you only want a good drip coffee, this is the place to go. Not watered down. Not too strong. Just right.

Really really great coffee. I was surprised by this gem in the small town of Blowing Rock. Their drink specials were creative and great from a caffeine standpoint. Their nitro brew was really smooth. Plus they have an option for a shot of espresso on top of it. 10/10 🤌

It is a super cute coffee shop with outdoor seating. The matcha was super tasty and we also had an iced latte. The latte was okay but nothing special. We would go back.
A favorite stop for us in Blowing Rock! BGB has a great vibe. Their coffee products are delicious and well crafted. Customer service is excellent.

While visiting Blowing Rock we stopped in for ☕️. So good we came two more times that weekend.
Great coffee.
The dirty chai latte was delicious and for a great price…. I don’t know about the woman working there who took my order. The moment I walked in I felt judged from head to toe. I watched her scan and stare at me without even saying “welcome!” “Hello!” Or “how you doing this morning?” Instead I initiated everything. I greeted the woman. I asked how she’s doing all the while feeling the awkward pressure that this woman had already judged me 12 ways to Sunday…. I assume she doesn’t get a tall, confident and educated Mexican American visiting the shop that often….. As a 6’2 Brown person existing in this world, I know when I’m being analyzed with prejudice and when I’m being seen with respect. This was one of those instant cases where I felt unseen as human and judged by whatever perversions was in this woman’s mind….. Not cool.

While visiting Blowing Rock, we were looking for a local coffee shop to visit. We ended up going to Bald Guy Brew and we were pleased. The place is very nice inside and everyone was very nice. We went with the Golden Hour Latte and it was good. Definitely would visit again!
Very friendly staff and great prices. The coffee and hot chocolate were delicious. Plenty of seating inside and outside (at least during the off season). Great place to pop in if you're exploring downtown or before you hit the hiking trails.
I’ve been ordering this coffee for over 4 months now and I will never get my coffee beans elsewhere if it can be helped. It is truly some kind of next level roasting operation they’ve got going over there cause this coffee is crack. Yes I said crack, it’s that good!💯☕️
The roasted coffee is the very best I have ever had! This crew has come through Helene with such a mess yet, the service is 150%! Kindness. Gratitude. Blessings of notes written on orders. This is the HEART of America. #belikewncfolks
Great coffee! I love that you can order different grinds depending on how you like to brew.
