Very good. Have enjoyed the charcuterie board, trout cake salad, pork loin skillet, shrimp and grits and hush puppies. Martini was good. Note that although their website and Google say they are open until 10pm on fri and sat, they close at 9pm.
Definitely going to be one of our go-to Brunch spots from now on. Came out on a Sunday and had one of the best meals (and service) we've had in a while. The food selection ranges from all around basics kicked way up, to more creative. I tried the smoked trout benedict, which was amazing. Can't wait to try other things soon!
This was my third time dining there tonight. I did not want to go back, but my husband did not want to drive anywhere with gas prices so high. I really have no words for how bad the food was. My shrimp was seriously undercooked as were the grits. The beast and blanket appetizer was over cooked. I sent back my shrimp and grits dinner and the waiter never made any attempt to see if I liked what I substituted . The tofu had no flavor and the same sauce and same broccoli that I had already paid extra for and had a half eaten dish sitting on the table of. At least offer a different side. So basically I ate a hot dog (because I picked off the overcooked cornbread) and some broccoli for my 17th anniversary dinner. My husband did not like the fish and chips. I mean it was just awful! We really have always enjoyed Stackhouse. I don’t know who is running this place. Apparently there were arguments in the kitchen according to my husband. I didn’t hear that but something is going on. I did not like my first or second experience there either but I thought maybe it was what I ordered. It isn’t!
Second time at Second Home. The food is fabulous. Probably the best dinners that I ever had. Smoked meatloaf, sweet potato pancakes, perfectly charred Brussel sprouts. Since food service is my career, I spent time peaking through to the kitchen. The chef and sous chef were totally in sinc. Really great to see such level of professionalism. Focused. Quiet. Efficient. The tall young man is definitely a rising star. Our server was exceptional, too. Make a trip here to this trendy, fun restaurant. You will not be disappointed. I really enjoyed my experience here.? It was so nice that the chef took the time to acknowledge us as we were leaving, even during the middle of a dinner rush.
Pretty good — 4/5. I had scrambled eggs, fruit salad, and avocado toast. Most of this review is about the avocado toast; I can’t speak to the other options as I did not try them.Scrambled eggs: very good!Fruit salad: I enjoyed the mint; it adds a really nice flavor. Note: this is more of a soup than salad as the fruit comes with a lot of liquid in a bowl.Avocado toast: If you like your avocado toast to taste like avocado, I would not recommend—the balsamic glaze takes away from the avocado in my opinion. I also felt that they were pretty light on the avocado so perhaps I am just used to a different, more avocado-focused avocado toast.Final thoughts: cozy atmosphere and good service. The food is not mind-blowing but it’s a solid brunch place to go with friends or family!
omg, I can't believe we waited so long to eat here! the food was the best we've had in the area. I had the meatloaf and my wife had the shrimp and grits. the entrees and sides were all amazing! the candied bacon was out of this world. we both topped it off with fabulous deserts. yummy yummy.
I really want to like Second home. I’ve eaten there twice. I think they have an interesting menu and great service. I found that everything I’ve ordered seems to be trying too much with sauces and toppings and you can’t taste what you ordered. The green tomatoes had too much topping. The trout cake zucchini noodles had too much sauce and oil, but the kale was great and the cake was interesting. Another visit the avocado toast had too many tomatoes and balsamic and I couldn’t taste the avocado. Stick with the basics, add a little salt, and refine the sauces and you have an all star experience!
My husband and I were driving through Burnsville on a Sunday around 12:30pm hoping to find someplace to eat lunch other than fast food. Boy did we hit the jackpot! The customer service was excellent. The food was excellent. I had the country style steak small plate. It was so good and the perfect amount of food. My husband asked for a hamburger even though it was not on the menu and they accommodated his request. I wish you would open a restaurant in Morganton.
Great menu. Sweet potato pancakes are great. Very nice wait staff. Give it a try.
Tried Second Hone for the first time this afternoon. We enjoyed Brussel Sprouts as an appetizer. They were sooo good! Then we shared the Fish and Chips. It was fantastic! Big pieces of cod lightly battered with fresh fries! Will def be returning!

Ive been to Second Home once in person and got take out once.First of all, their service is fantastic. Great people working there. Very warm and accommodating. Comfy atmostphere.Their food is great. Fabulous snacks (especially the boiled peanuts!), great drink selections with some neat creations. Loved the 'Ol Granddad Bourbon. Excellent shrimp and grits, smooth, buttery, and delicious. My only issue came from my signature salad. The lettuce was bitter and poorly chopped, the boiled egg was slimy and underdone, the goat cheese was so miminal you couldn't taste it, and there wasn't enough dressing, although the dressing (Champagne viniagrette) itself tasted delicious. My only advice: tighten up on the salads. Lots of potential there. More goat cheese, more dressing, better chopped greens, and maybe some toasted bread on the side.I'll definitely be back. Liked this place a lot. ❤
I can’t say enough about the quality of food at Second Home. The service I received was very professional & friendly and the food was so delicious. The presentation was so unexpected, as it reminded me of many 5 star restaurants in New York @ Miami (pre pandemic). I urge you to visit Second Home & definitely feast on their trout dip & their fried steak. You will be very happy.
The menu is exciting yet traditional -- the food is familiar yet new and different, which I think is perfect for our community and visitors. I was a little disappointed in the flavors... Things seemed a little bland or way over sauced, but I believe the kitchen staff will work that out as they prepare and learn these dishes. I'd also say the dishes are southern, not Appalachian, but Po-tay-to, Po-ta-to I guess
Literally one of the best and unique southern restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. Absolutely blown away because we randomly pulled in to eat here on the way to Asheville. I’ve been a organic farmer and a cooked all of my adult life. Mad respect for these folks and the best of luck. Can’t wait to return!! 10 Stars :)
Great addition to the Burnsville food scene! We had great service, tasty cocktails, & delicious food. The portions are very generous even their small plate size. I also appreciate that all staff wore masks. Many businesses in Burnsville do not wear masks, so we will be returning here for dinner before we go anywhere else!
