Koto Japanese Sushi & Steak House

In my opinion this is the best sushi restaurant in the greater Winston-Salem area. Very surprised by the freshness and quality of the fish used. I would definitely recommend this place.

Visited the restaurant yesterday around noon time. Initially unfriendly hostess - no smiling at all - did help some with ordering later.

Ordered steamed shrimp and vegetable dumplings and shrimp tempura - 6 steamed dumplings came about the size of a thumb - so disappointed - they seemed to have come frozen then microwaved and placed on some vegetation.
Also, same thing with the shrimp tempura (I have ordered shrimp tempura from other restaurants before).

The ones at this restaurant had a very thick pasty coating that seemed to be something that was frozen then heated.

I wanted freshly prepared food - not something that appeared it was frozen food reheated.

I'm trying to consume more locally grown foods and this experience helps support the importance of going more natural.

Delicious food at decent prices! Place was absolutely slammed on Christmas, but still managed to bring us great food expeditiously! Looking forward to going back next time I'm in the area.

I eat a lot of Sushi, like once a week. I travel for my job. Hands down the best Sushi i have ever had. Presentation was amazing. Quality of Sushi was 100%

Koto is a great place for when you want simple, reasonable, and good sushi/Japanese food. The portions of sushi for the cost cannot be beaten, this is now our regular spot for sushi.

I always come to Koto when I'm craving, an especially good, spicy salmon hand roll and a salmon skin hand roll. The ikura (salmon roe) is really good here, too. All the sushi is really fresh. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for here. Yum!

The food is good, but they cater to a specific audience, which becomes apparent when you sit down. There's one waitress who's never accommodating when you ask for modifications to a dish. For example, the bento boxes all come with teriyaki sauce. When I asked if I could get the meat plain or cooked hibachi-style, she flatly refused. Seriously? It's just a sauce—there's no change to the items in the box, only the sauce. I find this inflexibility absurd. Because of this poor customer service and their apparent preference for a certain type of customer, I can't give them a 5-star rating.

This is an amazing place to eat and have parties! My son celebrated his 24th birthday there and they really made it special!! I highly recommend Koto.
