Came in for lunch, got the crabcake sandwich ($8 with no side included, very small, no flavor) and coleslaw ($3 extra, had a strange aftertaste).
The breakfast is okay (better portions and good sausage) but flavorless.
The atmosphere was dead (no music, maybe 3 other full tables for lunch). Sadly, not worth the trip considering the cost and quality. They seem like really nice folks, I hope things change for the better. And if it does, I'll gladly give them another shot.

My family and I ate here for breakfast. The food was delicious. Everything from the eggs, sausage, grits to the omelette and were cooked to perfection. I have to give a shout out even to the sweet tea….. made in true southern style(SWEET). The restaurant has a super cute style and the waitress was very attentive. We are definitely going back to try lunch.

I have been waiting for them to open for quite some time. I tried them when they first opened and wasn't impressed. However, I held back on my review to give them time to settle in after opening. I tried them again the other day, everything was delicious, staff was friendly and food was ready fast. Decent price, good food, and great location. Keep up the good work.

My husband and I enjoyed our NC style bbq lunch here today with yummy, southern sides. Our server was wonderful too. Highly recommend.
What a wonderful surprise. Stop here at the Whistlestop. The food is cooked fresh for each otder, and the service is great. This was an unplanned stop, and now we know of an excellent place to go for delicious food, pleasant service, and a charming atmosphere.

If you are traveling from Suffolk down Route 13 into North Carolina this is a very nice place to eat. The atmosphere is interesting, the service is good, and the food is tasty.
I will say the waitress was not familiar with the type of BBQ offered. I was looking for the vinegar-based North Carolina BBQ. She checked and it was what I wanted, and the sandwich was very good.
The location is somewhat remote, but I imagine locals appreciate it. Try it if you are traveling along Rt 13.
