I was in the area on vacation and played the course on 7/28/25. I ended up in multiple bunkers, but was able to get up and down from everyone of them except 17 (that sand was more compacted and I misread it.) Ball came out a little hot, but still on the green for a 2 putt bogey.) The different conditions and challenges that others complain about in the reviews are what makes this a unique and unpredictable golf experience. If you want to play an easy course where you won't lose balls, go play somewhere else. If you can't hit it out of the bunkers or rough, don't hit it there! :) EVERY staff member that I had interaction with could not have been any nicer! I liked it so much that I went back to play another round on 7/31/25! First class people and a first class experience all the way around! The golf ball manufacturers make balls everyday. Bring your A game and plenty of balls!
Played on 7/24/25. The Pro Shop, Starter and bartender were helpful, welcoming and friendly. I love the layout. Tees, fairways and greens were in very good shape; the bunkers were not. I did not need to play from a bunker, so I was unaffected, but the rest of the group did. We'll be back next year.
I would give the course two thumbs up if not for the sand traps. They keep the border around the traps surrounded by thick, weeds, and grass that are super high and thick. It’s a bit ridiculous, it slows down play and you have a good chance of losing your ball, sometimes just 10 feet from the green. I don’t recall any other course doing this. I asked them about it and they said they do it on purpose. Very poor decision.
Ok, we’ve had a lot of rain in the past week but played yesterday and the fairways look like they haven’t been mowed since before then. No excuse when paying $72 for a round on a Thursday. At least let your customers know what conditions they can expect or give them acceptable fairways? Greens were slow but good condition.
Played a quick 18 while visiting the area. Greens were in excellent condition and staff were very friendly. I will be back!
I played here last week while I was in the area on vacation. It was a really fun layout and the staff were extremely welcoming, especially the starter and the lady in the pro shop! I can't wait to come back and play again.
So so. If you can get the hot deal from golf now it is worth the money. Unfortunately the course has not been in $70 shape in the 3 years I have played it. Always expect a TON of wind, they call it a links course for a reason. It would be a very scorable course on a CALM day, but good luck finding that. It gets wet and stays it, wish it didnt.
Easy to get a tee time also senior discount monday to Thursday.
Driving into the course with the castle like entrance we were really excited to play here. The pro shop was nice and the guys at the desk friendly. We should have stopped and turned around then. First the carts are in absolutely terrible shape. The seats in both cats were torn, the tires were bald and the computer screens were falling off. Then we get to the course and the conditions were just as bad. We realized it was early season golfing but there was no excuse for how bad of shape the fairways and greens were in. Too many other good courses on the area to ever play here again.
Castle Bay is a very well maintained course. It is an enjoyable location and the staff are great.

Awkward. They gave me a full refund but we were kicked off after being 2min late on hole 2. Political stuff all over the course which could be easily controversial and seemed unprofessional. Okay prices but if you're not a pro golfer or belong to the club I wouldn't recommend going. Also very strict on attire.
Great shape great staff very courteous!!!
I am a huge fan of Castle Bay! Really a fun layout to play, challenging, but not insanely penal. It has a bit of a linksy feel to it. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape. It is a must play public course in the Wilmington area.
Decent track in Hampstead! Pretty flat and usually windy but usually in good shape and the people are nice. Can get crowded on busy weekends but other than that, it’s a go-to course for us
I definitely enjoyed playing this course. It was in really good shape and everyone was very nice. Club pro had no problem storing my luggage etc while I played as I traveled in from out of town.
