A lot of rain this spring in first weeks of Summer have the course fairways and greens in pretty good condition. There are some spots on greens that seem to be impacted with either a bug or just burned out. The layout of the course is good with two par 5s and two par 3s on each side. There are some tight holes and be careful with the country club layout because you might catch a house with an errant shot. The amenities are dated and you can tell when this place was knew it was upscale. The sand traps we're in very bad shape and not playable. I would play it again with $40 for 18 holes. But not much more than that.

Great pool and delicious poolside food from the restaurant!

I just got done playing this course, as we walked in everything was great. Staff were nice. Got our carts and everything was good so far. Got to the first tee box a little disappointed but it was no big deal. Very patchy etc. Got to putting on the green and it was all downhill from there. These greens were pathetic. I’ve seen some other reviews saying the same thing and the “owners” excuse was that a hurricane had just come through. The weather had been great for months and this course looks horrendous. The owner said you shouldn’t throw stones without fact checking but that is the dumbest statement I’ve ever heard. This course is pathetic and the website reviews were payed for. Not bashing anyone just giving constructive criticism (yes I am). I would not play at this course no matter what circumstance.

Have been playing here for years, and the layout has so much more potential. My comments are strictly constructive criticism so I’m not bashing anyone. Over the years, the greens have pretty much stayed the same, with just too much bare between stands of grass. Maybe a punch and top dress to get this stuff thickened up this summer. Roll the greens more to speed them up. The fairways bermuda does look like its thickening up, some bare sandy areas maybe due to shade on some holes. I know it’s costly to maintain a golf course and you do get a ton of play, but just clean up the little things as far as esthetics, after mowing, don’t leave rows of clippings in fairways, blow leaves off greens, pick up dead tree limbs, clean around the ponds, tidy up the outside area at the maintenance shed, simple housecleaning. I highly recommend relocating the geese, they are crapping all over the place. The folks that work there are nice, from inside the pro shop to the cart guy. I will play again, I just would like to see Olde Point give Castle Bay a run for their money especially since CB has increased rates to crazy levels.

Driving range needs lots of improvement. Not sure why they went to using concrete base with the thinnest mat with no ability to set a proper length tee for a driver. Golf course quality is hit or miss depending on time of year. Many of the tee boxes and greens need some attention. Customer service is excellent.

Worst course I've ever played. Tee boxes are just dirt, and all of the tees are bunched together (see picture). Doesn't matter which of the five tees you want to play, distance is the same. Greens are like shag carpet - hit the ball as hard as you want, you'll leave it short. The bunkers are like concrete, and all the rakes I saw were broken. Also, they don't enforce the dress code - there are guys out there in cutoff sweat pants, jeans, and ratty t-shirts. The layout might be ok, but it seems they don't care at all about conditioning.

Quite possibly the worst golf experience I’ve ever had, tee boxes were not cut, the greens were rolling slower than the fairways. The fairways were very bare and the roof was like hitting off concrete. If you want to golf, do not come here.

Purely from a golfers perspective, this place is awful. The tee boxes and fairways are like hitting out of the rough and the greens are like fairways. At a nearly $50 price point this course is not worth anyone’s money, the fair price would be about $15 given the course conditions. You are barely playing golf here. This area has such great golf courses this just is not one of them. As if the course conditions weren’t enough, the staff is rude and generally unwelcoming. The only saving grace is that the restaurant is pretty good. Overall just avoid this place.

Replying to the “owner”: Hey buddy, every course is able to do the bare minimum to keep golfers from complaining about course conditions… have flat and cut tee boxes, ensure the fairways are shorter than the rough and cut the greens so they aren’t like carpet! Other courses like Castle Bay, Wilmington MUNICIPAL, and Bear Trail are all able to keep their course well manicured even with a drought and lots of rain. Significantly better alternatives to this course. The owner likes to make excuses but I’ve been in this area for 5+ years and this has been by far one of the worst courses out here. This one and iron clad are neck and neck. Maybe they can try foot golf or something so they can keep up with the same level of effort. FYI the poor souls that come to your course voluntarily pay you money to have fun, maybe don’t blame them in the comments for your shortcomings and instead maybe take the free advice.

Ironclad is a much better course for a cheaper price just minutes away from this horrible course. Owners don’t care about this course. Worst maintained course I’ve ever played on. Fairways are so overgrown that you can lose your ball in the fairway and greens don’t look like they’ve been mowed in weeks with weeds all over the place. Please save yourself the time and money and go somewhere else as you will regret going here as I did and from past reviews it’s obvious that ownership doesn’t want to take any accountability.

I’ve played OPCC once a year for the past 15 years and this is the best shape the course has been in. The fairways have improved and most of the greens. New carts are slick and come equipped with GPS and Bluetooth. There are still some rough spots on the course but it is clear there has been significant investment made. Hope the trend continues.

Quite possibly the worst course I’ve ever played, almost unplayable. Lost so many balls in the fairway, tee boxes might as well be the rough, and the greens are miserable. Save yourself the time and money, and play anywhere else

Have liked this course in the past... Played June 29th and the course is in horrible shape!
Greens are terrible... Like putting on shaggy carpet! No reading greens... Just hammer it and hope it gets close.
Tee boxes are just dirt and weeds with tee markers lying in piles on some of the tees.
Fairways are spotty.
Very obvious that the upkeep of the entire course has declined!

Will never play again. Whole course backed up, waiting 20 minutes each hole. $50 for a round and the course was in bad shape.

Justin Salerno

It definitely shouldn’t have been full price considering how bad the greens were.

Todd Donnelly

Wish I didn't have to leave a negative review because I do like this course it has a decent layout. They did just get new golf carts with GPS which is great, but the greens are so slow it makes the course nearly unplayable
