What was unique about Madison's was the fact that items that would ordinarily seem very simple on a menu are taken to the next level. For example, when I was there they had a steak wrap as a special. It was extremely flavorful and tender. My wife had chicken salad on a croissant, or nearly. This seems like the kind of thing you could get in the grocery store. However, it was clearly made using a unique recipe and it couldn't have been higher quality. My advice would be, if items on the menu seem commonplace, do not take them at face value.

A top shelf hospitality experience from start to finish. Nothing but a positive bookmark from an amazing staff to make our visit to Highlands even that much more remarkable. Well done!

We generally love Relais&Chateaux and wanted to celebrate our anniversary in style. This experience was unfortunate. The food was good, as expected. Service was really inadequate! Our server appeared unkempt and completely unknowing about proper etiquette. We ordered a reasonably expensive bottle of wine ($285)-she never even bothered to refill our glasses, kept addressing us as “you guys”, and generally seemed to ignore us.

Very good overall.Caesar salad good, but lettuce a bit watery and swamped with capers.. and I love capers.I had octopus and was top notch. My wife's pork chop was great, requested broccolini was subbed without comment for ho hum broccoli. We were told they were out, we probably would have switched if known.

I was given the wrong drink, it tasted like ginger and my drink was supposed to be gin, blackberry, lemon, and tonic. Had 4 different staff at the table, who took our drinks was different than who brought bread who was different than who took our order who was different than who brought our food. The drink orders staff member also brought the end of night rose and puddings, but that wasn't her specific role because she was the full server at other tables. Very confusing and disjointing. The bread service seemed surprised when we knew what bread we wanted right away because we didn't have bread plates, and proceeded to go through the bread options again after we said what we wanted. Also, you receive way too much butter to only receive one piece of bread. Chargrilled octopus tasted more the the char and grill than the octopus. Not a bad experience but strange considering the quality of restaurant it is supposed to be.

Wonderful atmosphere and service for a celebratory birthday lunch. Everything was good but I wish they'd change up the lunch menu as the choices rarely change. For such a high end restaurant new choices would be nice.

Absolutely a wonderful evening. Our meals were fabulous, I had the diver scallops and my husband had the red snapper special. We will definitely go back. Our server was excellent as well, everyone was from coming through the front door .

Enjoyed our evening. Service was great staff very knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions. On main entree menu would like to see a roasted or prepared chicken breast. Not a fan of duck. We had a delicious New York strip perfectly cooked and scallops our meal was definitely a 10!
We love Madison's! The menu is always changing with wonderful farm to table seasonal options that are uniquely prepared and are so well done! We loved our starters, entrees, and desserts. Service is always top notch as well! It is one of our favorites.

The food was ok. The onions in the onion soup were not cooked well and the broth was flavorless. The meatloaf was horrible; I was sick to my stomach most of the night. The pecan pie filling was curdeled and gooey. Overall the food experience was not at good as it has been int he past. The wait staff was ok; the ambiance was tired; not the remantic dinner experience we remember having on so many occasions in the past. Probably won't be back.

I happened to eat here alone while traveling through. Sometimes at higher-end places like this, when this happens, you're made to feel as though you're an inconvenience or a bit of a loser because you're not there with a date. That wasn't the case here. Server/bartender was cordial and engaging (if not constantly otherwise occupied). Foodwise I had Foie Gras and the Trout... both, not particularly easy things to make (easy to screw up, anyway). They both came out perfectly, with a decent local wine to pair with both. Highlands is known to be on the pricier side, especially for western North Carolina, so keeping that in mind, the cost was in-line with other venues in the immediate area. And, yes, it would have been a hit had I brought a date to this place and I were aiming to impress. Today, however, I just impressed myself.

When we made the reservations, we told them we were celebrating our 40th anniversary. Unfortunately, they seated us right next to a very large, noisy group. The food itself and wait staff were excellent, but the table location greatly diminished our overall experience.
Service and ambiance were perfect like usual, but our food was below average. We asked for the foie gras burger to be cooked medium rare, and it arrived well done. Fries were overcooked, French onion soup was cold as well.
Excellent food and delicious desserts. Everyone enjoyed the food.
