Such a great spot to grab a quick meal. We love it the Friday night specials are the best!!!
I meant to write this a couple of weeks ago. I just thought of it now because it’s Friday ….I was grabbing a pizza. It was busy on a Saturday. And the young man I think he works in the pizza area always I haven’t seen him that often. Anyway he was very helpful..
I got the pizza, but I had a couple of my friends children with me. He was so polite he grabbed some napkins and plates for me.
Everyone in the store is always so helpful. Food is fresh and the prepared sandwiches and meals are always wonderful.
I think the young man who helped me was Dana or Danny. I asked him his name, but it wasn’t really clear anyway if you know who it is, he’s a great employee.please thank him. I can’t Thank him enough for helping me that day.. I know it only took a minute or two but often people don’t go out of the way to help others, and I was struggling with those kids and the food. Thanks again mountain fresh you are always my go to spot, when I need something yummy and quick In Highlands.

The guy at the register told me to smile because I looked angry. I wasn’t, until then. Your customers aren’t trained animals that need to smile on command.

Wow! Terrific breakfast! $15 for huge cheese, egg and chorizo quesadilla and the best cheesy grits! We loved breakfast so much we went back for lunch! Really good ingredients are used - they don’t scrimp on quality. Wonderfully friendly staff/servers. Great selection of coffees and a nice bar tie the evening. Outside tables available too -
Wife and I were visiting Highlands and came here for breakfast one day. You order at the counter and they bring it to you. She had the 2-egg breaktast with grits, rye toast and bacon. I had the griddle cakes (just one - they're huge) and bacon. Everything was great. It's also a small grocery store, so if you're staying in a cabin here, you could get provisions along with breakfast.
We had just finished hiking and made our way to the Highlands downtown area to walk around. We were craving a salad on a warm summer day and decided to stop by Mountain Fresh Grocery for the perfect post hike meal!
What we got:
*Caesar Salad - it was really good. The caesar dressing was a little different here, but we loved it.
*Prosciutto Caprese - Sandwich with prosciutto, mozzarella, pesto, and tomatoes on a french baguette. This was so good and full of flavor. The only negative, was that the tomatoes were small and got lost in the sandwich with all of the other stuff. I'd still get this again though!
The grocery was fun to walk around in as they have a lot of items and choices. The baked goods looked really good, especially that deadly good peanut butter pie, maybe next time!
We also got a bag of frozen fruit for our dog for a nice cool treat as we ate. I noticed that the staff tried to ring it up, but it actually did not scan and was missing from my total they gave me. I mentioned it, and they scanned it again. They were very grateful and appreciated that I spoke up - something I very much noticed and appreciate right back at them for sharing their appreciation. It definitely felt like a small business transaction, that you just learn to love!
I definitely recommend stopping by if you are in the area. Plenty of tables on the outside in the shade if you have your dog with you!

I eat here every other day
Food is NOT good and NOT cheap. Made me kind of sick afterwards. Don’t recommend.

We’ve been coming here for years, but it hasn’t been the same since JT sold it. The food is still decent, but not worth the price given staff attitudes. The cashier was too busy socializing with the guy in front & acted like I were interrupting when she finally rang me up.
The only friendly person was behind the prepared foods counter—he asked the chef my question, & the chef gave him such an ugly look, like we both should’ve known the answer. Turns out the chef was wrong about the pasta salad dressing anyway. And the orange cranberry bread was too dry.
This is no @Oak Grove Market in Atlanta’s Oak Grove neighborhood. After several visits under the new owners, we’re done here.

Came in while on vacation in Highlands to grab some groceries and figure out directions to our lodging (since T-mobile has yet to discover this spot). A kind employee gave us the WiFi password so we could pull up a map. We sat at a little table, minding our business, probably looking very threatening with our new-in-town look, when a woman (middle-aged brunette, possibly the owner, definitely the WiFi enforcer) stormed over demanding, “What did you buy!?” and snatched the receipt from my hands like Indiana Jones swiping an ancient scroll. She then proceeded to inform us that only paying customers may use the WiFi, and vaguely threatened the employee who helped us out.
Look, I get it, WiFi is precious out here. But maybe instead of guarding it like it’s the Holy Grail, try letting customers breathe? We were about to make this our go-to stop. Instead, we got interrogated like we were running a black market hotspot ring. Five stars for the kind employee. One awkward star for the WiFi enforcer.
They have a fabulous selection of pizzas, sandwiches, and more.

Unfortunately this place has fallen off. The quality of the food has gone down significantly. I know good help is hard to come by and keep, but I'm done with Mountain Fresh. Tourists will keep this place in business, but they're not getting any more of my business.

Everyone was quite friendly. Service was fast but the food was quite pricey and flavorless. I ordered the French toast and it felt undercooked or maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be around here. They do serve a lot of food for the price so that’s a plus.
