Been to 48 states trying every top rated bakery/candy shop/coffee shop possible this place.....OMG the Poached Pear and Marscapone Danish is too die for! Had to go back for a second one. Haven't tried the Sticky Bun yet but I'm sure it's on point. Drip coffee was good and strong. They don't miss here, neither should you!

Every time I visit the OBX I must go to proof bakery. Their sandwiches are outrageously delicious. You must try the chicken schnitzel. And all of their baked goods are amazing.

Tuesday morning a friend called me and said she was stopping at Proof Bakery and if I wanted anything. I said if the have plain (no filling) beignets I would like 2, but if not to get me 2 doughnuts. She said all the beignets they had included some type of filling, so I got 2 doughnuts which were delicious. The best part of this story is that the girl who was helping my friend asked when she would see me again, my friend responded on Thursday. The girl who works at Proof (sorry, I didn’t get a name) said, no problem I know what he wants, he wants Louisiana style, come back Thursday morning and I will make some for him. Well, I had them this morning and I’m not kidding when I say they were even better than Cafe du Monde in New Orleans. She went above and beyond by making me a special order on pretty short notice. The kind of customer service that I really appreciate and is sadly not that common these days. I will be ordering again very soon. And to the girl who made them for me, THANK YOU so much. I would love to come in and meet you, but that may be a while, I had my left leg amputated below the knee a few months ago and it’s still fairly difficult to get out of the house. The girl that picked up the pastries this morning is my nurse who helps me out around the house a few days a week.

This place is dangerous! I came in hungry and wanted to eat everything!! Settled on the Caribbean jerk sandwich, dang tasty!!!! That Bavarian cream-filled donut was stupendous..

If you have a craving for Donuts or Danishes, this place is a must! All items are baked in the shop freshly. Although there's not a dining area, most customers get take outs.
Besides the baked goods, breakfast sandwiches are also available. You may want to try out their Creme Brulee donut. We have not seen this made elsewhere. We can confirm that it is as good as it sounds.

Saw this place while doing my research. My plan was to hit it on my first day in Nags Head and grab a bunch of stuff for me and my relatives stay in Rodanthe. But I called an audible and hit it on morning we were leaving. HUGE MISTAKE. This place is utterly fantastic. The owner is obviously a talented baker by the first glance in the display case. Doughnuts, fresh baked bread, chicken schnitzel, hamburgers, twice fried real frenchy fries. Local told me to get the sausage (made in house), egg and cheeseon a challah bun (baked in-house). If I lived within 50 miles I would eat this every day. I'm a biscuit guy but this is by far the greatest breakfast sandwich I've ever had. I also got a buffalo chicken stuffed pretzel and a Boston cream doughnut. Both awesome. My travel partners got chicken schnitzel tenders and a homemade dipping sauce. He raved how good they were. My other relative had an apple pastry that was as beautiful as it was tasty from the taste she gave me. No inside seating but do have a really nice outdoor seating area. Lady waiting on us was so helpful and she loved her job and knew the product and made excellent recommends.

Thank goodness we are down in Hatteras and not right nearby or would be here everyday! The storm prevented us from a trip north so hit them up on the way home to Virginia. Two egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches consumed on the drive (sooooo good and huge!) plus took back 2 creme burlee donuts (husband thinks they are the best pastry ion the planet) and two pear, vanilla marsacapone tarts which look great and will be consumed today! Highly recommend this place!

Amazing bakery and unexpected lunch spot. We went in to find my wife a pastry....just before noon. While we decided on some yummy donuts, I noticed their chicken schnitzel sandwich offerings on Hala bread. Let me just say wow! Best chicken sandwich I have ever tasted. The donuts were way good too...but I'll still be thinking about that Schnitzel long after we head back home from our vacation here. Give them a try.

Enjoyed the bacon breakfast sandwich here, which was excellent and something I highly recommend. My partner got the sausage breakfast sandwich, and that was also superb. I preferred the bacon, which was thick and crisp cuts, but my partner preferred the sausage. The bacon was a bit chewy for her, but I liked that. The wait was around 20 minutes for both sandwiches. Overall, very delicious food here!
