Food and staff are amazing! We do come here nearly every time we are down, and is hands down one of our favorite places. We took our parents for dinner tonight because it is their favorite spots too, and everything was excellent including the relaxing live music 🎵. I have to give an extra shout out for the homemade banana cream and peanut butter 🥧!

Best place in town

What a fantastic little place! The food is absolutely delicious and our server was awesome! It is quaint and unassuming, and kind of off the beaten path, but so worth it! Go in the off season to avoid the crowds, and be sure to try the crabcakes!

Really wonderful, locally owned restaurant. Above and beyond on the menu selections. Hard to choose from so many delicious entrées and apps. Beer and wine only. Service is excellent!

OBX food but just a touch more refined. CIA Trained chef who’s been around and the food shows. Highly recommended.

I will say this is 4 1/2 star review. First time here and it was a hitbwith the family. The appitizers were the hit if the dinner. We had the Farmers board charcuterie. Great selection of items as well as placement of items. The spring rolls were delicious and the BBQ shrimp was delicious and my favorite. I could not get enough of the BBQ sauce. Ended up putting it on almost everything we had. Even ordered extra bread to dip in the sauce. We loved the bread as well. We also had an order of roasted brussel sprouts. For the main courses we had the lamb loin with broccoli, pan Seared crabcake, the porkchop dinner with onions and potatoes, and sn order of shrimp and grits. I started out with the soup special which was the Thai curry pumpkin soup. Fir dessert we tried the chocolate almond cake which was very good and the lemon ricotta pie. I did not really taste much lemon but the chocolate almond cake was good. The service was excellent. Everyone was friendly and the staff were very attentive. The atmosphere us very casual and fun. The pricing was about average. Overall a great place and experience. We will be back. The star of the dinner was the appitizers.

I recently travelled from RI to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday last week, and we decided to reserve a table for 12 at Saltbox Cafe. Not only did they reserve the tables ahead of time, but the service and food were absolutely amazing!

One thing that really meant the most to me is the fact that I have a picky child. I decided to order the NY Strip dish (Which I totally recommend!!) and split it between my daughter and me. I asked that the reduction be placed separately and ordered a side of extra rice for her. When they came out with the plate, they actually plated BOTH of our plates, and they made hers plain and cut our steak for us and made my plate the way it read on the menu. With my kid having ARFID, this meant the absolute world to me. My daughter absolutely enjoyed the steak as well, which was tender and so tasty.

The service was great, everyone there was friendly, and the manager even came to us to ask how everything was. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting OBX!

I’ve heard for years how great the Salt Box is … but only today was able to personally confirm it! There were three of us and we sat at the bar so we would not have to wait. Our server was adorable and very focused on helping us have an enjoyable time. I am a plant-based eater so I ordered the vegan scramble, which was amazing! It had veggies with the tofu and one of the seasonings was turmeric - WOW! I got the rye bread with it and that bread was super tasty as well. The other two ordered the crab benny, which was extraordinary. What we all loved most about the salt box was the fact that the menu looks fairly typical but the flavors are anything but typical. We shared a crime brûlée for dessert and it was incredible as well. I can’t wait to come back! Kareen, our server, summed it up when she told us that working there had spoiled her for most other restaurants in the OBX.

Just had one of the best meals I’ve ever had. There were 6 adults and 2 children in our party. The appetizers were fantastic and the entrees were delicious and beautifully plated. Live music was an added bonus! Very happy to have found The Saltbox Cafe!

My husband and I were together long before we finally tied the knot. Whenever we talked about our wedding dreams, it always included the statement, “I want Saltbox to cater the wedding”. When it came time to book our caterer, we knew walking into the tasting that this decision would be as easy as it was delicious. What became a favorite date-night spot, will now always have a forever memory in our hearts because of what Amanda and Randolph, and their entire staff, worked to deliver for us. If you’ve never had an opportunity to experience the creativity, flavor and love that goes into Saltbox’s food, then I strongly urge you to check that off your to-do list. If you’re on the wedding planning journey and searching for a catering company, this should be your first and last stop. Amanda and Randolph were extremely responsive and open to the entire vision we had for our Viking-themed wedding…an evening feast fit for a Viking King. Our goal was to build a seasonal, yet varied cuisine menu that celebrated the local seafood and nuances of Outer Banks and would leave our guests talking about this dinner for years to come. From the detail that was put into our hors d’oeuvres, through the flavorful and perfectly executed plated dinner service, ending with the most decadent spread of desserts/hot chocolate bar (best in OBX of course), we were beyond impressed with every single bite we ate that evening. Additionally, Saltbox provided the best bartenders who executed our fun “his and hers” cocktails and (2) full bars with ease and smiles. We are still receiving endless compliments about how amazing the cocktails were. From Saltbox’s attentiveness during the planning process, to a detailed site visit to review the kitchen/service needs, to a well-executed plating set-up, to each staff member’s warm and professional service style throughout the evening of our event, I would recommend again and again their catering services. The execution, timing and presentation was impeccable – but most importantly, their entire team was such a delight to have in and out of the kitchen as they truly delivered the best feast we’ve ever had. From a professional perspective, I am also a career Event Planner, working to organize events from weddings to high-end galas nationwide – this was hands down the best quality and executed event service I’ve seen in a career of 15+ years.
