Was not what I expected. Not my style to have an open salad bar and way overpriced thin steaks.

I really don't know where to start.
We had reserved a room for our gathering...
The heat was out. It was 56° in this room.
The tables were all set up as if we were expected to endure this.
We had to move to the front.
The place basically feels like a funeral home without the smell of embalming fluid.
The toilet was nasty, ring around the bowl along with #2 stains.
The hot plate was not even hot. It was room temperature.
My steak was barely warm when it arrived. It had the texture of rubber.
The so-called clam chowder soup was like a fish stew without fish.
The salad bar was ok, but the plates are barely big enough for a cat to eat out
of.
The place just lacks attention to detail.
Don't waste your money or time.
I'll never go back

From the moment we walked into Baron & the Beef in Kinston, North Carolina, we knew we were in for something special. The ambiance was warm and inviting, setting the perfect tone for what would become one of the most memorable dining experiences we've ever had. But let’s talk about the steak. Oh, the steak! Cooked to absolute perfection, it was tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor in every bite. The seasoning? Flawless. The char? Just right. It was clear the chef here is a true artist, turning a simple cut of meat into an unforgettable masterpiece.
The service was equally stellar. Our server was attentive yet never intrusive, anticipating our needs before we even had to ask. They made sure our drinks were always refreshed and that we were completely satisfied with every course.
Baron & the Beef is the kind of place where every detail matters, from the fresh, crisp salads to the decadent desserts that rounded out our meal. It's not just a restaurant; it's an experience. If you're in Kinston and looking for a dining destination that will wow your taste buds and leave you planning your next visit before you even leave, this is it. Five stars just isn’t enough to capture how amazing this place truly is!

The steak was good though the building feels like it was a old funeral home and the waiters are understaffed which can result in longer wait times. The salad bar looks likes it all out of a can.

This was my first visit, but the man behind us was 70 and he took his junior/senior prom date here, so it’s been around over 50 years. We arrived at 4:50 to a line waiting to get in and were seated right away as they opened at 5pm on a Friday night. The salad bar was fresh and everything was good. The clam chowder was perfect down east style, plenty of potatoes and well cooked onions and lots of clams. They had a good cheese spread too; and Meatballs on the salad bar! I had filet and it was cooked perfect! My other half had the prime rib and they will grill it for you, highly recommend topping it off on the grill! It was good. You can also add anything from the salad bar to your baked potato. The service was wonderful and we look forward to visiting again!

The three person waitstaff were wonderful. Salad bar was tired and no way 60 items. There was soup, but not able to identify it--potatoes? Onions? Not clam chowder. No beer, wine or lemonade. Prime rib was mediocre, but no where as mediocre as the atmosphere. My husband called it "school cafeteria". Won't be back and strongly advise they clean up their social media so folks don't come looking for wine or lobster tails. It's really inexpensive, though.
The website is not up to date with menu items. There are no alcoholic beverages and Golden Corral has a better atmosphere. The place smells of mold and mildew with zero ambiance. We left to go find a nicer establishment. Live and learn. Reservations not required now I know why. We did not get a chance to try the food because were turned off from the odor in the place and the very worn out dirty carpet and walls. Can’t rate food because did not order.

Called last week to make reservations and the phone was in and out when try to talk with the hostess. Told me a party of seven was too much for them and they wouldn’t be able to serve us. Called today and phone was out of service all day. Went just to see to if a party of 4 could be seated and quickly realized the place has gone down hill. Good place to eat though if you’re 60+ though. The atmosphere kinda reminded me of Abbot’s. Extremely disappointed. Their food could be a solid 7 but their customer service is nonexistent.

For what is supposed to be a slightly nicer steakhouse I was not impressed. Zero pre bussing of the table. Since they were about an hour away from closing the server disappeared, probably doing side work to go ahead and get on out of there. We literally had to track her down to get our check. The steaks were good. Had better. But leaving a table of 7 with dirty dishes and making us move things around to get our food, not acceptable.
Soup was semi warm, salad bar was ok, steak was awful! Full of fat and tuff. Not worth $60. One and done. My husband fell out of his chair because it was broken. My seat was filthy and looked around at the other chairs to swap it out and they were nastier than the one I had. Place is run down.
