This time to OBX we stayed in Kill Devil Hills. The story goes that Blackbeard had rum buried in the sand dunes of the area so strong it could kill the devil - hence the name - Kill Devil Hills. While in Manteo we learned that there is still rum - Kill Devil Hills Rum made at Outer Banks Distilling in the town we were in - Manteo. We found the distillery, went in and had a few samples followed by bringing some of the rum back home with us. The ingredients of this rum is pure without refined sugar added. It is very good. I also picked up some local honey used in one of their rums. It was great talking to the person who was serving the samples and was also the "main guy" at the distillery. The inside is a fun environment. And, there is a bar where you can get drinks made with their spirits.

We stopped in here for a tasting and some cocktails. Everything we tasted was great! All three rums, the candied pecans, the molasses, slushes (alcoholic and nonalcoholic), expresso martiki, and honey badger. Great place! Excited to be taking some home with us.

Goodness gracious is this place delicious. Great cocktails in the bar. Great products that can be purchased (liquid and otherwise). Awesome atmosphere. The Honey Pecan Rum is amazing. Also, if you can track down their rum barrel soaked coffee beans at a local store you will be rewarded (we found ours at the Front Porch Cafe). Easily the best flavored coffee I've ever tasted.

We have had the distillery tour in the past, and bought a few bottles of rum for ourselves, but now we are just hanging and drinking craft cocktails at the bar. Tours may restart sometime this summer. Stop in, taste the rum, buy something to take home, or have a great drink, something for everyone!

Very good small batch Rum. The cocktails are on a whole nother level. Who would’a thought of thyme infused lemon bitters in a cocktail. You gotta try their stuff.
