Sat at the bar and had a great meal and the bartender was mildly entertaining.
I was looking for a good meal before flying out of RDU and someone mentioned Carmines on reddit. I am glad I swung in because this was some of the better Cuban food I have had outside of south Florida.
Would recommend if you are in the area and would visit again. I did go basically in the middle of the day on a Thursday so not sure if it gets busy during peak hours but I imagine it may.

Very average Cuban food. Had some kind of Cuban seafood stew with clams and mussels...I swear they were the tiniest clams and mussels I have ever seen! Also tried the Cuban sandwich. Was not cut properly, was all dried out and had about 2 small pickels and a couple tiny slivers of ham.

My boyfriend and I ate here last night for the first time. We love trying new places and from the moment we walked in everyone was SO NICE. It was actually so refreshing how inviting the entire staff was, from our server to other staff members just walking by checking on us and even the manager was super personable. The food was incredible I’m still thinking about it as we speak lol. We will DEFINITELY be back !

Vegetarian options: Vegetable sofrito was a savory and delightful cooked side dish. I could have drunk the sauce by itself. We dipped garlic bread in the leftover sauce to extend our enjoyment. I believe it’s available as an entree, too. Ingredients included broccoli, cauliflower, red and green pepper strips, onion (I think), and love (according to staff). There may be other ingredients I don’t recall, offhand.

I ordered takeout - Paella for two!! This had to be the most delicious paella I have ever had in my life. The rice was extremely flavorful. There was a good amount of seafood in this dish. It was so delicious I was sad when it was gone. I will definitely be ordering this again.

I don't know how this place doesn't have 5 stars - it was amazing! Some of the best Ropa Vieja I've had, both in and outside of the Caribbean. The service was great, and the waiter we had gave us excellent recommendations. The Manager, Ramon, is also the sweetest! I'll definitely be recommending this place to all my friends and giving it a visit the next time I'm in town.

Cuban American here, born and raised in Miami for 20+ years before moving here. Carmen’s was a huge let down. My husband (also Cuban American) and I ordered the bistec empanizado, white rice, black beans, tostones, croquetas, and beef empandas, as well as a side of chimi. The bistec empanizado upon delivery was a soggy mess (we live 10 minutes down the road). It was not well seasoned either. The rice was tasteless and a sad showing for Cuban rice. Tostones were disintegrating from how soggy they were. Beef empanadas were mid. The chimi was SOOO unbelievably spicy, it was inedible. Only good item we got were the croquetas which were delicious. Will not be returning unless it’s to order croquetas to go. Super disappointing as we were expecting authentic Cuban food.

We had a wonderful quality time together after work in this amazing place..The Puerto Rican employee (I think he is the manager) delivered excellent customer service to us, gave us suggestions based on our preferences and even did the same for our colleague who is vegetarian. He made a tasty mojito. Wow wow wow we were so pleased and satisfied. Our flight deck team was grateful to me for letting them know about this restaurant. Keep up the good work!
