It is more like a take out place. All served in disposable items. Then the price should reflect that but unfortunately not. The coffee advertisement on tv shows a very nice mug but in reality it comes in a disposable cup. A big let down comparing price to concept.

It appears to me that the chef has changed. There is a big difference in the quality of service and the food has been noticed.

Nice fresh clean overall. We ordered for 3 ( veg n non veg). Chilli paneer, vada & mutton sookha was good. I ordered Onion Rava dosa…Sambar was average, potato masala absolutely cold!!!
We ordered 2 filter coffee along which was by far worst we tasted. Felt Coffee decoction may have finished and they mixed milk n water with minimal
Remaining. There seemed no effort to correct / offer another coffee even after giving feedback!

Hole in a wall informal Indian place and with lots of Indian people which is a good sign. Friendly service. However, they use all plastic and paper plates and bottled water which is not something I like -not environmentally friendly and feels kind of weird. Food was tasty though. Nan bread was a bit too dry for me. The other table seems to have freshly made dosa which looks really good. 😃

The food is yummy. Enjoyed their filter coffee, idli, dosa, vada, chicken curry and fish curry. We took our pup and sat outdoors. Had best south Indian food in the RTP area in recent times.

As a Chinese, I come here once a week, like the brightness of the restaurant comparing to other Indian places. Food price is high, but it also comes with large portion. Biryanis are very well made. Dosa is decent. Chicken 65 sometimes exceptional well if they cook fresh, juicy and flavorful, best in the area. But sometimes it could be too dry if not cooked fresh. All in all, I like the place.

I ordered a Chicken Fry Boneless Biryani (to-go) from this restaurant, and to my shock, I found a screw in the food. I tried calling multiple times, but no one answered. When someone finally called me back, the person was extremely unprofessional and showed no concern for this serious issue. This was an unacceptable and unsafe experience, and I strongly urge others to be cautious when ordering from this place.

I visited this restaurant on a Sunday at 10 AM. I ordered the Masala Dosa, which was delicious and well-prepared — definitely the highlight of the meal.
However, the overall experience was a bit disappointing. The sambar wasn’t ready, and they didn’t offer any alternative. I was only given a small cup of chutney, which felt inadequate.
Additionally, my order of idlies was forgotten. When they finally arrived, they were served cold and seemed like they were a day old — a dry layer had formed on top which I could easily extract from the idly, making them unappetizing. Again no apology or alternative was offered.

The owner/server seemed humble and courteous, but due to a clear shortage of staff, the service fell short. I hope they work on improving freshness, consistency, and overall service quality, as the dosa was really good.

Been to Southern spice a couple of times and pleasantly surprised both times. The good: solid south indian, generqlly Andhra/tamil good. Very good dosas and sincere thali with proper combo of food. Decent list of menu items and all of them at our table felt fresh and right. Most food is reasonable priced for the local market. Some things can be tweaked a bit, like...idli can be improved to be fluffier. I am glad that they are using paper cups and plates instead of plastic, though it could cost them more. Overqll nice vibe and good supportive staff. TASTE gets them 5 stars
