I was passing through the town so I grabbed a cup of plain latte however to my disappointment it tasted like a pool water. It looks like Mt Gilead public water has a lot of chlorine/chemicals however having a reverse osmosis water filter to remove them before making coffee should be a must in a business like this. People might not feel it if they order sugary “coffee drinks” that cover the taste however it is very noticeable in a plain latte without sugar/flavor.
Coffee might be good itself if the chemicals would not cover the taste. I dumped the rest of coffee, won’t be coming back.

I understand this is a small town but it's ridiculous when you come to a coffee shop and they reject you service. We came on a women's retreat with a group of 15 women and as soon as we walked into the coffee shop, we weren't welcomed and we were automatically denied service. The lady ( who I just found out is the owner sadly) said we have to call before hand and informed them we were coming. They said if they service us they will run out of milk ice and coffee. Than while some of our ladies were trying to still place an order, she the owner started saying she closes between 1-2 for lunch. We were there before noon. It wouldn't have taken her an hour to make the coffees. First off, SHE the owner never asked if everyone wanted to place an order. Maybe 7 out of 15 of us actually wanted a drink... And each drink were different. Then the owner said that we can't expect her to go and buy items we need that she's out of. The owner then stated that she didn't have enough seats for us all to sit and drink coffee. Well that was a lie. There were plenty empty seats inside the shop and another maybe 6-10 seats outside too. Anyways... One of our friends placed an order and paid... Right after she paid they told her they will make her drink with a different milk instead of what was requested and they said sorry we are out...( I just think they didn't want to serve us) so of course my friend got her refund. Anyways... I'd stay Away from this place. The coffee was okay but nothing my drip coffee machine couldn't do.
As a small business owner in a small town I would have thought she would have been sweeter and more excited to run out of items she could run to the store that's around the block to buy items needed after we left. She could have worded it differently.. maybe next time she could have said ..Hi ladies, sadly being a small town I might not be able to serve each one of you. I will try my best to make each one of your orders but I might run out of items needed. But no... She straight up said no to serving us and was a pain when you tried to order. She just kept complaining to the ladies who tried to place an order and she kept saying I know you guys will leave a bad review.
For a small town, I think it's important for you to have a better welcoming coffee shop. Most people who are visiting little towns want to grab a coffee. And sadly this made us double think next time about coming here.
From my understanding the owner/lady working there stated they will protest my review because it wasn't true. That's fine.. but you had 15 women who were all there with the same story. I recommend you work on customer service and work on the way you approach your visitors to your business... You do rely on your customers business to make a living and sadly you lost out on an amazing opportunity. Instead of greeting your customers with love, warm welcome and get service... You greeted us with no love, no welcoming, and no service.

I recently visited Speckled Paw Coffee with a group of friends—14 of us total—and we were excited to grab some coffee together. I wish I could give a review on their coffee but unfortunately, we were met with an unexpected and disappointing experience. When we walked up the counter, the staff informed us they couldn’t serve us because they “didn’t have enough supplies” and are not prepared to serve so many customers all at once. It was baffling to hear a coffee shop turn away eager customers over something as basic as coffee.
To add to the confusion, we couldn’t help but wonder: how does this place stay in business if they aren’t prepared for a larger group? And, more importantly, why turn away 14 people who would have gladly given them a good chunk of business?
We left feeling pretty let down. For a coffee shop, especially one that likely wants more customers, this response didn’t make sense. Hopefully, they’ll reconsider their approach to serving larger groups in the future.

Great cute place for such a small town. I wish coffee shops would be more natural and homemade such as for chai tea, but that’s a rare find. Incredibly friendly new managers.

We had a very nice stop here for coffee and conversation. The shop owner is incredibly friendly, and the coffee we had was hearty and delicious. The vibe is welcoming, sunny and open, obviously a great spot for locals to sit and chat. We had a lovely chat with a lifelong Mt. Gilead local, too.

I hate bougie coffee stores. But this place was great. The young lady that served us was bubbly and upbeat, and evidently manages the book store part of the store, not coincidently also bubbly and upbeat. There is ample seating and between cute chairs to generous couches, you'll find the right spot for your butt. The diverse menu means you'll also find something for your mouth. The location is ideal and the place is bright and well laid out. The outdoor patio is equally charming and functional. And I haven't even mentioned the best part yet, the stores' namesake, a dog with speckled paws, greets guests warmly and serves as muse for multiple pieces of folk art dedicated to him and on display. Worth a stop for a snack or drink.

Incredibly friendly staff and delicious coffee! I will make a point to go back next time I'm in Mt. Gilead.
We stopped by on a lovely November’s afternoon. I’ve never been to this place before, so I walked in with a low expectation. The barista was sweet and lovely, the atmosphere was quiet and cozy, and their coffee was perfect.
