Came here a couple times and usually it’s pretty good. Today was not very good. I’m sure who is on shift makes a difference but the bartender was extremely slow on drinks and nonstop sniffling the entire time I was dining I could hear her sniffling every other second. Almost seemed like they forgot about the drinks at first. I ordered chop steak on lunch menu and asked for it medium, it came pretty raw. My fault for not realizing it a chop steak was just ground beef I guess but medium still doesn’t mean raw. Not just pink but raw to taste as well. Chicken caesar wrap was also very dry and didn’t really taste like caesar. I only ate my mashed potatoes and fries. I didn’t feel confident that if I reordered it would come out much better so I took home everything as leftovers and recooked it at home. If this would’ve been my first time here I wouldn’t come back, but I do know other times it has been better. Just disappointing this time for sure.

Stopped by today for lunch. Went to bathroom to wash hands, absolutely disgusting and unkept. Waitress seated us she was very nice, noticed how dirty the inside was, almost walked out. Ordered food, lunch special cheeseburger, $10. The burger was the smallest I’ve ever seen, lettuce looked old, the bun was 5x bigger than the cheeseburger so I basically paid $10 for bread. Kids ordered the tenders , they were stringy. She crab was good. Nothing like the at gators in Fairfield shopping center or holland road. Owner needs to clean this place up it’s disgusting and the food was awful.

This is an update to my initial review here. The original over a year ago didn't get 5 stars for the same reasons.
Quit relying on your waitresses tending tables in the main room to also wait in your bar tables. You could easily assign two to each space and drastically improve on your customer service. When you blend the two spaces they get caught up entertaining the drinking crowd and flat out forget of the rest of their guests. The cheesesteak needs more meet or at least a consistent amount, each time I order it for my son it's a roll of the dice on whether or not their will be enough meat. Not a big issue when he was 4 and would only eat a quarter of the sub but these days there's a reason we order his food from the adult menu and not the kids menu.
Overall this is still one of my favorites places out of the limited choices we have in Moyock to visit. Work on the little things so y'all can have a full dining room all the time

Eating in with beer is good but for a family, no. My daughter didn't even finish the chicken fingers... I've tried this place twice over a 3 year period. First we ate in then ordered to go. I really want to like it but.. disappointed.

But what really makes AJ Gator’s shine is the service. This place lives out the true meaning of TIPS—To Insure Proper Service. Manager Shelly runs a tight, trusted team of bartenders—Katie, Diana, and Sarah—who multitask effortlessly, anticipate needs, and maintain a safe, enjoyable atmosphere.
Katie deserves special recognition. She has a gift for making customers feel valued and cared for. She checks in, makes sure you’ve eaten, and—along with Diana—knows when it’s time to cut someone off for their own safety. They don’t do it to “bleed you dry,” but because they want you to come back safe and sound. That’s not just good service—it’s heart, kindness, and integrity in action.
The value here is incredible. For great food, professional service, clean surroundings, and short wait times—even on busy nights—you won’t find a better stop along your travels.
