We hopped off of the Blue Ridge Parkway for lunch and immediately saw this gem. Sandwiches made to order were amazing. Snacks and memorabilia available for purchase. Amazing little roadside stop with a family feel. Easy parking. Very close to the Parkway (300 yards).
Interesting place—right off the BRP. VERY friendly people. Order at the counter and find a seat (outdoor seating available). Food was quite good for this type of restaurant. The homemade yeast roll buns are exceptionally yummy!
My family went to Christa's with our son and daughter from Charlotte. We live in Newland year round. The owner was so rude that my son in law was flabbergasted. We almost walked out, but had already ordered and unlike the owner we have manners. In addition to the rudeness, the meal was cold, grilled cheese small and not good, the coke flat and it was very expensive for what we got. Several other customers were taken back by her rudeness. When I called to politely let her know our experience as well as others, her response was "I have had 300 customers today" and I said that is no excuse for rudeness, then she said "as I said I had 300 customers" and I don't really care." You would think that since she has been in this business for quite a while and depends on customers that she would appreciate the "Leaf Lookers" and locals such as us. There is no excuse for rudeness no matter the situation. Attitude is everything! Needless to say, we will not return and we will share our experience with others who are considering her restaurant.
Absolutely fantastic BBQ along with fast friendly service! It’s a must stop place whilst out riding your motorcycle or car, don’t pass it up!
We arrived at 10:15 on a Thursday and ordered breakfast. The building is more of a mini-general store/souvenir shop that serves food. Several tables were inside and picnic tables outside. All breakfast is served in a sandwich with a variety of breads to choose from. Because everyone raved about the yeast rolls, that’s what we chose. There is a large selection to add in. I chose egg, bacon, tomato and cheese. Hub chose egg, (giant slab of) tasty sausage and cheese. He really liked his sandwich and half of mine. I don’t eat bread or sugar, so it seemed really sweet to me. Hubs also enjoyed a cinnamon roll. I tasted one small bite. The butter-cream icing was buttery and very good. There was a whole lot of cinnamon in that roll. The coffee wasn’t anything to write home about, sugar or fake sweetener and only powdered artificial creamer or a jug of milk were available. The owner was sweet, as were her assistants. You pay after you’re finished, total cost: $16.60. We will skip breakfast and go for lunch next time. They were barbecuing meat and it smelled heavenly.
Fast and friendly service. Delicious food. Great place to stop for lunch!
Oh my, the lemon rolls. Super friendly folks, awesome BBQ and delicious sandwiches...and did I mention the lemon rolls?
Not that many choices around but the food was home made and tasty enough. They are extremely flexible regarding what to put in the sandwiches, my yeast bun roasted chicken (a bit dry) was good, my husbands club sandwich was quite tasty. The cole slaw was drowning in sauce and the bake beans had thick sauce as well. I had a salad, it had lettuce, tomatoes, banana peppers, black olives and sliced pickles. And butterfinger pie, probably the best of the meal.My surprise was when I went to pay and it was $40. I asked and each item is charged on her own. The menu doesn't have prices.
Incredible food and awesome service. Worth the stop. Lemon roll is the bomb. Southern hospitality at its finest. Thanks for a great lunch.
Great little place to rest and get some ice cream plus a glass bottle coke while out on the motorcycle on 181. Plus if you just looking for turns it's a good turn around spot to head back to hit the road again.

We had given up on lunch before going to Linville Falls--we just wanted a sandwich--and there it was. What a find! Christa herself pointed out the made-in-house lunch items on the menu: fresh-baked yeast buns, chicken salad, brisket, and a couple of other BBQ-style meats. The yeast buns were still warm, pillowy and with just enough bite to stand up to the filling; the brisket was luscious, and the chicken salad (with some finely shredded carrot mixed in, of all things) excellent. Then we fell for the carrot cake, maybe the best I've ever had, with some extra light spice I couldn't quite get--cardamom?--and fresh cream cheese frosting. We had to hustle out before we bought more home-made desserts! Do not miss this delightful little place. Go out of your way to enjoy Christa's home-cooked food and friendly, casual atmosphere. You can also buy preserves and such at their little store.
Oh my goodness! The friendliest Cafe I've ever been in! Two of the best salespeople I've ever seen as well! It's obvious that the owner, Christa is passionate about what she does as the food was delicious and HOME MADE!!I didn't get the other young lady's name that helped us too, but she was fantastic!
Fantastic place to stop by for lunch. Very friendly. Easy order then sit down and they serve. We were driving the Blue Ridge parkway and was looking for a local place. Busy place but no lines. The Cole slaw and homemade cookies were delicious. Thank you for lunch!
Amazing!! Super friendly staff. Home made breads and high quality toppings make delicious sandwiches. Must try if traveling through on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Wow. Just like my aunt Shirley used to make. I feel sad for people that only know what Cracker Barrel has led them to believe are Chicken and Dumplings. This is the dish I grew up on at family gatherings and would beg my aunt to make… she would grumble a bit because of the time involved, but it was always worth it. These are delicious and they sell out for a reason. Great staff, friendly, quick and delicious. Sadly, we had no room left for dessert… but the list looked amazing and worthy of a trip just for dessert.
