We were at Cousin Gary’s for lunch today. The food was great as usual. The service ……… What service ??? Our waitress took the order and brought the food. I ate off the buffet. There was nothing wrong with the food. The waitress refilled my husbands coffee only once..The first cup of coffee was cold.We sat there eating our lunch and the waitress NEVER came to ask if we needed anything or if everything was ok. She NEVER came to refill my soda either. Our waitress and the other waitress were busy sitting at a table playing on their cell phones and were talking & laughing. They were more interested in what they were doing, than their customers.Needless to say we didn’t leave a tip. Also for dessert was jello & rice pudding.Gina charges $14.00 for a buffet meal and you get JELLO for dessert. The only thing cheap is the jello !!!

On our way home to Canada we happened upon Cousin Gary's and glad we found this charmer. Down home cooking and hospitality for sure. Don't know if we'll be back that way but if so we'll be there again. Fried chicken was beyond good. Thank you from John and Joanne. Orono Ontario
Fried chicken was very dry and stringy literally almost got chocked on it

Nasty as hell. Food was bland I wouldn’t feed it to my dog. Gross will be my last time. Don’t see how it stays open

Excellent service, food was mediocre at best. However, the fried chicken was very good. Most of the items were canned or minimally prepared. The coconut cake that we took home was fairly decent, better than expected. Overall, would not eat here again.

Food was inedible on the buffet and was charged full price even though it was not with eating and was going to be charged for another buffet when all that was needed ordered was a plate not another buffet. Horrible service and freezing cold inside because 1 waitress did not want to get hot. The customers were freezing and the ceiling fans made the food cold as soon as it was set on the table.
Recommended dishes: Salad, Cheeseburger, Fried Chicken
This used to be a great place to eat. The quality of the food was bad and the buffet tasted horrible.

My fiancé and I were trying to find a nice meal and not have to deal with fast food. He asked if I wanted some home cooked food. We pulled into cousin Gary’s and let me tell you we are super happy that we did. Everything on the buffet was amazing. They had an amazing broccoli and cheddar soup. We will definitely be back again.
Enjoyed the buffet. Fabulous southern home style food. The fried chicken is the best I've eaten anywhere. Veggies were basic and a nice salad bar. I drove 150 miles to sightsee and try Gary's out. Wasn't disappointed at all.
Delicious homestyle cooking. Great prices and giant portions! Very attentive way staff. Dined there three days in a row during a recent stay in Mount Airy. The only thing that's preventing me from giving five stars all around is that it's so cold and dark inside. Very dated, but I don't think the atmosphere is what keeps people coming back! I recommend the meatloaf and the pancakes. Make sure you're hungry when you go!
Vegetarian options: Like most down home cooking, I would guess that most items are prepared with meat or stock.
Wheelchair accessibility: The restroom is technically wheelchair accessible, but VERY tight quarters.

Kinda pricey for a buffet in a small restaurant but really good. Wait staff was on top of everything, very clean

A friend and I ate at this restaurant today. The service was excellent and there was only one waitress working the whole restaurant. She was great. We both had the buffet and although there was a variety of options, we both ended up getting sick on our stomachs shortly after leaving. We were visiting Pilot Mountain State Park for the first time and this ended our trip early. We will return in the future to experience the park but we will not return to this restaurant.
