The Hardware Cafe is located in Downtown Warrenton. It is located in a 1907 building that was once a hardware store. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The restaurant has kept the theme of the hardware store and the decor and menu items reflect that. From the minute I walked inside, I just loved it there and every time I turned my head I saw something else. The wood countertops and shelves are from the original building.
I was immediately greeted when I walked inside and told that I could order at the register or take the menus to a table to decide. The breakfast menu is small but that was ok. I went with the biscuit and added egg, cheese and bacon. Then I got an iced tea too. The prices were very reasonable.
While I was eating, I looked over the chalkboard menu on the wall that had the lunch sandwich combinations. I was tempted to get the Pipe Wrench. But you can order a Ladder, a Hammer, a Rod & Wheel, a Lure among others.
Besides sandwiches, they offer hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, and desserts. Looks like another road trip is needed so I can order a sandwich.

Always fresh and delicious food paired with friendly service!
An old hardware shop turned into a delightful soup, salad, and sandwich shop. Food is delicious and I stop be any time I can between 12 and 2pm.

I was in town as part of my quest to visit all 100 counties in NC, and I'm glad I stopped in for a snack and a quick chat.
My slice of carrot cake was good, and the birch beer was decent. The prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was cozy.
I had lunch plans, but I'd like to come back. And to see if the local poet and artist who had items for sale is there most days. As a fellow poet, I'd love to support the arts.
There isn't a ton in downtown Warrenton, but there is some nice architecture to view and a few shops to check out.
Charming establishment. Loved the atmosphere and the music. The host was very friendly. But the waiting time was 30 minutes. And we were the only 2 customers in the restaurant . The exhaust was not working properly, and when the food was finally ready it was given to us in a yellow dollar general bag. I thought that was kinda weird unless that is the norm. Remember very first time there. And when I got home to enjoy my lunch, I was surprised that my sandwich had one peice of lettuce, cut up peices of pickle.not pickles but cut up peices. The bun was not even toasted. And the burger looked as if it was overcooked, and dry. Not tasty at all. My mother's cornbeef sandwich was not as tasty as she remembered. And she talked very highly of this restaurant. We're very disappointed. Of the food and the price.
A hidden gem in a small town. I work in Warrenton once a week and Hardware Cafe is always a go to for lunch. The food is always good and consistent
Well done sandwich perfection all around. Service great, worst thing is the selection. I live an hour away and want to try literally EVERYTHING!
These people have a heart for their food and treated me wonderful.
This is the kind of place where you can, and ABSOLUTELY SHOULD, talk to the next table. I made friends, you may too!
Over absolutely beautifully crafted sandwiches😋🤤
The sandwiches are creative and the staff is super freindly!
Aaron always has the best food in town.
Edit: And Rachel too 😁
Great place for lunch! Sandwiches are great and I love the themed names of the sandwiches!

Hardware Cafe is a great addition to Warrenton! It has a unique, industrial vibe that's both modern and unique. The staff was super friendly and attentive, even though they were busy. Lunch is our favorite meal to get here, and their menu specials change from week to week which makes each experience fresh and interesting! Because they are often so busy it would likely be a bit too loud to try and do computer work/paperwork in the space but it's a great place to catch-up with friends or grab a quick bite while heading through town!
Overall, we highly recommend Hardware Cafe if you're looking for a tasty and fun lunch time dining experience in Warrenton. We will definitely be back!
Great hot pastrami sandwich-made to my specifications. Nice staff.
