This is the good Hiro 88. We always have great service, larger portions and the food quality is dynamically better

I used to think Hiro 88 had good, quality food. But today, after I had a to-go order, I don't think I'll go back. My sweet chili crab roll tasted fishy and the teriyaki beef was burned to charcoal. It made me wonder if they gave me yesterday's leftovers since I ordered early in the day. I should have returned it but I was already across town when I sat down to eat.

So, of course the service was terrible (drinks came out after soup / salad), slow, server went missing, that's everywhere though. The place is nice, really dark, but nice. The food. wow.. terrible. LIke, really bad. Ordered two beef dishes, some chicken dish and two sweet and sour chicken dishes. The chicken dish was swamped in some overwhelming sauce that soaked the food into an oblivion of some ginger / lawn clipping flavor accompanied by a glop of white rice. The two beef dishes were basically three pounds of onions, again drenched in some overwhelming nasty sauce with some soggy strips of mystery meat sprinkled on.. and, a big glop of rice. The two sweet and sour dishes were just plain chunks of chicken (maybe lightly floured) doused in some REALLY red syrup, accompanied by giant chunks of onion and peppers, like, they seriously just cut a bell pepper into 8 pieces and piled it on the plate. The food in this place is absolutely disgusting.

Manager at this location has many places where he falls short. I do not know the name of the manager I spoke to. But I have a SEVERE allergy to gluten (celiac disease), when I get any gluten in my food (even a crumb) I have a systemic inflammatory response which is in credibly painful for about 3 weeks (give or take depending on how much gluten is in it). I went to this restaurant tonight which is known to be a place that is safe for allergies. When I ordered my food I specified that I needed gluten free food. Then when the food came I asked if it was gluten free and the food runner said yes. The server (which the manager informed me was 2 days out of training, not her fault) did not ask for allergies and the food runner did not double check the ticket. But I offered the information and double checked to make sure I was okay. After eating two pieces of chicken I was informed that it was in fact not gluten free. The server apologized. The manager was not informed (his words, felt like a lie, but I can’t be sure). The food was not taken off of our bill, but since I was with company I waited until they left to talk to the manager to not make a scene. When I brought up how serious of an issue this was and how it could be life threatening to other people and requested that the server and food runner go through extra training, he kept cutting me off and saying he completely understood the disease and the training was extensive. He said he would talk to the server, but kept going back to “the training is extensive” and then said he wasn’t even her manager for the night. This upset me because I wanted the manager to listen to me and not keep interrupting me and making excuses. He did say that she had just completed training. Being new at a job can be extremely stressful, but if this was a peanut allergy, the consequences could have been deadly for that person. And if the training was so extensive, then it should be fresh in her mind. The manager was just very rude and dismissive and now it makes me question if I should ever come to this location again or even this chain of restaurants if this is how a manager treats a medical issue. I am a nursing student and will likely be out of commission for the next week at least and this is impacting my schooling. If I was pregnant then this could have caused a miscarriage. I don’t feel that this was handled with enough grace or gravity. I do not blame the server or food runner for their shortcomings. Since multiple people were at fault I am 100% in the belief that this was a management issue.

I come to this location often however I won't be coming back. I called to ask if we could still come in for reverse happy hour 40 minutes prior to closing and they said yes. When we got there, me and 3 of my girlfriends, a couple was ordering and got seated. After the waitress came back and took our order and they did not seat us. Instead had us wait standing, then gave us our drinks to go. I asked if we could be seated they told us they made our order to go because they were almost closing AFTER I had already paid with a 20% tip. The audacity. Horrible customer service. Never coming back. I paid over $60 and gave a generous tip just to be told they made our order to go.

The sea bass is amazing. It takes 30 minutes for the kitchen to prepare, but well worth the wait. It melts in your mouth!!
Came here on a Sunday. The reverse happy hour all day was an awesome but unexpected plus. Rolls were great as well as the sesame chicken. Also had edamame for an appetizer. 🤤

Food is always good, however our waiter Paul/John both names were on the receipt, seemed to forget about us as it was cold and took an hour for us to get it after ordering. I will always understand an oversight, this job can be so difficult, but so many people came in and then went, before we ever got our sushi. Also we were very clearly lied to about the reasoning for things taking a while. Would rather be told the truth, much more respectable. We were there a total of 2 hours, resulting in plans having to be canceled.

This was our first and likely last visit to Hiro 88. We dined during their happy hour and planned on having a few apps and drinks. However, our server was rather slow, inattentive, and had no interest in being on top of drinks or real service. The portions for the main entrees and the food was tasty, the opposite of the poor service. Unfortunately, we weren't really given the opportunity to enjoy our date. Blue Sushi and other Asian restaurants in the area do much better. We will definitely dine elsewhere in the future.
