The State House Cafe is in the basement of the State Capitol building in Concord. We came as a group on a tour bus. The capitol building is quite interesting too, and the people working there were very friendly.
We ordered the 1/2 Sandwich and Soup, and a Turkey Sandwich. When the soup I wanted was not available, the substitution was quite good. The public is welcome and one might meet a Congress member, as this is a popular dining place for them, too. The area is brightly lit and clean. One orders as they progress through the cafe line and pays at the end. The meal may be eaten in the public dining room or made to go. The dining room has long tables, where people sit together, and a stage where various events are held. Just tables and chairs; not fancy, but clean and neat. This day there was a Christian prayer service. The speakers were loud, so table conversation was impossible and would have been bad behavior anyway.
We enjoyed our meal and I would recommend this cafe, for adults. Restrooms are available, but they are down the hall.

State House Cafe totally bailed me out in a pinch. I had a work event I was supposed to bring a dish to and due a bunch of reasons, I didn't have time to cook it. I ran to this cafe the day before the event and the owner graciously agreed to make a similar dish for me, even though it wasn't on the menu. He was cautious to make sure it was allergen free for my various coworkers. I only dinged the atmosphere because the cafe is in the basement of the state house. It's not trendy but the food is great and the service is even better!

He does a tremendous job. The easiest entrance is the side door around the right side of the statehouse. If you're downtown, definitely try it

I ordered 1/2 sandwich with soup. Grilled Chs w/bacon and Tomato Cheddar soup. SO GOOD i have been wanting it ever since. I also ordered the corn chowder. i saved it for lunch the next day. I unwrapped it to find a note on the top. They were out of the chowder and replaced it with Beef n Barley (and 2 free yummy cookies). The soup smelled AMAZING! I dont eat barley but i did pick at the meat and potatoes and it was delicous.

Coworker had ssg, egg, chs on a biscuit. she didnt love the eggs but the enjoyed the rest of her meal

Pete is the best! Excellent food, consistent but with plenty of options. Pete and his crew are super friendly, fast service and very reasonable prices. Definitely check it out if you need a low key lunch in Concord.

Really wide variety. Great selection! The Buffalo Chicken Wrap was awesome, and their homemade soups are delicious. I would highly recommend this cafe

This place is really good. It must be under new ownership since the other reviews. I had fish sandwich, fries, homemade cookie and bottle of tea for $11.25. The guy was super nice and we didn't wait long at all. I really recommend this.
