I've visited this coffee shop many times. I get charged different each time, even though I order the same thing. I've let that go up until this last visit when I did mention it, because this time the drink wasn't correct and when I communicated it, there was no apology or even ownership for the mistake. The overall experience made it feel as if my wanting the drink I ordered was inconvenient. Not sure if I'll be back as I drive out of my way to visit the shop, since the coffee is good. It wasn't all staff but a few that made this a very poor experience. When you pay a high price for the coffee it would be nice if the kindness and patience that is given to the staff is also extended back to the customer. This is edited as I believe this is a better explanation of the experience I had and I hope it helps both the business and customers.

I started coming here a couple years ago when I was looking for a cozy coffeeshop to do some writing in and immediately fell in love. I try and go as often as I can now. Most of the baristas know my name and even my usual order at this point and they’re all so kind and so cool!!! I’m an iced caramel latte girlie but I’ve tried a few other drinks from here (chai, hot chocolate, seasonal bevs) and have never had a bad one!! Same with their baked goods (especially a big fan of the scones when they have them). Breakaway has become one of my favorite places to be, especially as a writer. I wrote the bulk of Master’s thesis here, and it’s where I’ve been working on a novel for the last several months. If I’m ever published, this café will absolutely be credited in the acknowledgements. A special thank you to all the people who make Breakaway the wonderful place it is!!!

I do my laundry down the street and I always stop in for a coffee. The coffee is amazing and the staff is always very friendly and kind. A great place for the Dover community. 10/10 would recommend.

What an amazing spot! The staff was super friendly, there was plenty of places to sit and enjoy your coffee. I very much enjoyed the hot apple cider they had. Will definitely be venturing here again soon!

Break Away has become my absolute favorite coffee shop in Dover, and for good reason. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by an old school, classy vibe that feels like a breath of fresh air in today’s world of cookie-cutter cafés. There’s something special about a place that honors tradition while delivering exceptional quality.

Let’s talk about the food – it’s outstanding. Everything I’ve tried has been fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. But the real star for me? The matcha lattes. They’re perfectly balanced, smooth, and made with quality matcha that you can actually taste. It’s become my regular order, and they nail it every single time.

The service here sets Break Away apart from anywhere else. The team is attentive, friendly, and genuinely seems to care about your experience.

Special shoutout to Dan, the manager, who exemplifies what hospitality should be. He’s incredibly generous with his time, remembers regulars, and pays careful attention to every detail.
You can tell he takes real pride in running an exceptional establishment.

Whether you’re looking for a quiet spot to work, a place to catch up with friends, or just want the best matcha latte in the area, Break Away delivers. This is what a neighborhood coffee shop should be.

Highly recommend – you won’t be disappointed!

I’ve been coming to this spot for years now. And I never officially met the new owner, Ben. Had a thorough conversation with him and can tell he’s a very kind and genuine person. They don’t come anymore local or blue collar than him. He’s done some really great things with this place, and his staff are all very welcoming and thoughtful with their work. Hands down my favorite cafe. Happy to keep supporting these guys.

I live on the west coast and stopping at Breakaway is one of the things I look forward to most when I’m home. Their coffee is incredible. I’ve been hard pressed to find any spots that have coffee this flavorful and aromatic. Additionally they have a great atmosphere with lots of tables for small and large groups and games in the back. WiFi is strong both inside and outside.

Only in the area for the day, and so happy I found the Breakaway Cafe! Best hummus toast I’ve even had, delicious hummus made even better with pickled veg, roasted veg, and something zippy. Freshly brewed MEM tea, huge selection, including my favorite. Lots of seating, available street metered parking, funky and friendly vibe! Great service from lively and attentive staff. And reasonable prices. I’d be a regular, if I only lived here! Wah

We stopped on the way from New Hampshire to Boston and I'm so glad we did!
The coffee is GREAT, the staff was very patient and welcoming, even though the line was long!
We only took coffee and a pumpkin cake and they were both great!
Other foods looked great too, hope to stop by and check them at another time.

Regarding parking - we arrived on Sunday when apparently parking on the street is free.

Breakaway cafe is such a wonderful place. They have my favorite bagels in the area. And I dream about the mint matcha!

The staff are friendly and warm. And when you walk in you can tell that they try to foster a sense of community in Dover.

My only complaint I can’t even consider a complaint rather more of a wish is that I wish they were open earlier on the weekdays. I would love to have it before work but would never be able to get to school in time.

All in all great job everyone at breakaway, y'all rule!
