Felt like being robbed and forced to eat prison rations.

Went for family birthday dinner on a weds night.
Server - outstanding (friendly, attentive, responsive)
Drinks - very tasty
Mussels - delicious good portion size
Oysters - very fresh and tasty but some very small
Flatbread - tasty but soggy, (burnt crust) tomatoes on top were cold.
Strip steak medium rare - several chewy sections, came out cold, closer to rare, not enough seasoning. Potatoes were tasty but cold. Broccolini very raw, tasted burnt had blackened sections.
Scallops and risotto- also cold, scallops undercooked, risotto bland and chewy/a bit dry. Brocollini also burnt and raw.
Shrimp scampi - also cold, not very garlicky, decent flavor but not amazing.
Kids chicken tenders - chicken and fries very tasty. Fries are very good.
Chicken sandwich - very tasty nice thick portion of chicken.
A restaurant i would definitely try again as most issues seemed to be cook staff or food finish to table timing issues.

It's like you took the words 'hipster douche' and turned it into the vibe of a restaurant. This being said, the food was delicious. Our waitress was tolerably bad, but incredibly forgetful on a seemingly not busy shift.

Saturday night bartender was much more concerned with chatting with her friends near service bar rather than taking care of guests. Entrees took over 40 minutes in a relatively empty restaurant, with absolutely 0 communication from the bartender. Food was bad. Burnt salmon and really bland scallops and risotto. Used to come to this place all the time and tonight was so disappointing.

The service was great. Our server was attentive and very polite. We had an appetizer which was good, but the main course was partially ok. My wife had the scallops which were cooked just right and served warm enough. I had the shrimp scampi special which had under cooked noodles and was served room temperature and had little flavor. The total bill was over $100 with tip. At that price getting one out of two meals right is not good.

This place was great! The devil eggs of the week were yummy. We decided each to try two different burgers and share them. They were both amazing. Our server was very nice also. The atmosphere was so welcoming, I'd love to sit inside next time or near a fire on a palet bench. A few people were leaving with their dogs also.

RailPenny is a great place for good food and friendly staff. We've been there a bunch since it opened and will keep coming back.

Update: Been here over 150 times in 7 years...more.... Used to come once a week for years with kids. Since posting a 5 star review 7 years ago, it has gone down. We stopped coming a year ago because inconsistent food and prices way up. Went in last night, Tuesday, after waiting a long time after ordering entrees, we had to leave. They offered to cancel our dinner or pack them up to go. Not happy with that. Ruined our night. Pack up a cheeseburger to eat cold later because it took so long? Food just OK. Waitress said "if you're not happy, you don't have to come back". Ok. we won't.

We come to the area for work regularly, and just discovered this spot. Everything was great! They had a lovely patio, and the food was just what we needed. My partner has been thinking about his chicken sandwich since!

Dietary restrictions: Okay for GF. Everything was well labeled.

We sat inside, and it was such a nice atmosphere! Our server was super nice, and everything was delicious. I got the braised short ribs and they were definitely melt in your mouth. The green beans were perfectly cooked, and the potatoes were to die for (and i'm not a potato person!) The flavor was amazing! My friend got the Mom's mac and cheese and let me have a taste, and oh my goodness... I could have eaten the whole bowl! Highly suggest getting the smaller size, as this was just enough to feed a grown man.

Parking: The only downside is that the parking is pretty tight, so if you're meeting a large party, maybe consider carpooling our of courtesy of other patrons.

We held our daughter’s birthday party on the back patio and it couldn’t have been a better place for kids and parents! The staff was friendly and accommodating, the food was great, and having the downstairs bar was really convenient. Turns out Railpenny is a hidden gem for events.

Like this place very much and feel like it's just gotten better over time and so glad they brought back some brunch items to the weekend menu. Will be returning for sure.

I was fine with my meal because it was slammed ever where else and for what I was originally expecting it wasn’t mind blowing but the drinks were good enough to keep me happy. The short rib was lack luster for 30$ and the steak was about the size of a Wendy’s chicken sandwich patty but it was fine I was still in a good mood. That is until dessert. The person I was with got essentially was just caramel chocolate pudding the only complaint there was there was just primarily caramel and not enough pudding and the caramel was under cooked AND STILL mood was up. Then we got to the strawberry shortcake. I learned today that there are people who don’t know how to make strawberry shortcake. I’ve had strawberry shortcake cake on top of everything from biscuits to English muffins and they’ve all been fine. Here however was the first time I’ve ever had what I can only assume was undercooked cornbread that they thought they could finish in the microwave and when it hit the table the cake was still steaming hot from when it left the microwave. Unfortunately for me I was under the impression that it was that vapor you see when things just get out of the freezer but I was mistaken. What I was greeted with was a very hot cake, warmed strawberries, and the most bewildering sadness from having worst strawberry shortcake to date. Who microwaves strawberry shortcake?!! The servers were great I don’t want this to be a slight on them but what savage thinks strawberry shortcake is supposed to be hot.
