I was in Hampton for the 1st time 🥳. It was for my cousin's wedding,💒 and we went out to grab a bite and a drink or 2 after we checked into the hotel. I had a smash burger and it was DELICIOUS 😋 Great size portions! Also the drinks were made perfect in my opinion. Not too much ice to water it down, and the perfect amount of alcohol😉 not too much and not too little 🥂. The atmosphere was cozy for a tavern and the wait staff and bartender were SO friendly and fun to chat with. Not to mention the stellar service they provided.😉 I would recommend it if ever in the area. 💯

I’m not sure what happened to the tavern. I have been a regular here for over a year at this point. Not only did they change their menu, but the food has become really horrible. We waited over an hour for our food. It was not busy, and two of our dishes came back blackened and burnt to the point where no one could eat them. In addition, the waitress was so inattentive and acted put out. She barely glanced our way, and every time we asked her for something she barely acknowledged us. Not sure if she was having a bad day or what. Never experienced this at the tavern before. Super disappointing. Will probably not come back again and I loved it here.

The food was okay I ordered chicken tenders they were just fine but my mother ordered the quesadillas, absolutely burnt not edible the waiter had an attitude I just wouldn’t recommend this restaurant unless you enjoy burnt food.

We came here cause it was one of the few places we could get food at 10 o clock at night. We ordered the wings- delicious! Onion soup- mid. And calamari- quality.

The bartender was attentive and the game was on. Great night.

Went in a few weeks ago and couldn’t believe what I was hearing. A man, seemed to be the manager or owner, was talking to a bartender and he was sarcastic, condescending and downright rude to her! I’ve been debating writing this review because I’m sure it will fall on deaf ears. My husband and I go out to eat often and have never witnessed anything like this before. I felt terrible for the poor girl as she clearly looked stunned and seemed like she was going to cry. Besides that, the food was awful. The last few times I’ve gone in I haven’t had a good meal. I don’t think after this I’m going to try there again. It’s sad because I loved the flatbread pizzas and they’re off the menu. I was excited to try the fried food after they added it to the menu but each time I feel like it is worse than the time before. If you’re going to add fryers to the restaurant then the staff should be trained how to cook in them. The 401 never had fryers before last fall and that was one of the reasons we loved going there…it was different than a lot of other restaurants because of that. Now it’s just like every other restaurant…actually it’s even worse.

The 401 is such a cozy atmosphere. Their food is top notch and their staff does not hover on you. Very enjoyable atmosphere.

401 Tavern has made amazing improvements over the past few years. The food, drinks, and new outdoor dining section make it one of the funnest lunch/dinner spots in Hampton. The cocktail menu is large - with fun drinks. The Spice World Margarita is my new favorite - although I wish their drinks were stronger. The food menu has never disappointed me. We love the pulled chicken nachos, quesadillas, and a variety of mac n' cheese dishes. I would have never recommended this place to my friends a few years ago, but after their many additions, I would suggest 401 as a must-visit.
