With a mere four days’ notice, the owners of La Piñata agreed to host a memorial celebration to honor my mother who passed away. We had initially planned a cookout at the Surry Mountain Recreational Area, but we were told less than a week beforehand that our reservation was cancelled due to flooding. Stuff happens though, and we will be forever grateful to Phillipe and Augustine for saving the day and doing an absolutely STELLAR job of keeping the food and libations flowing....
At first when driving up to the place for dinner after sunset, it didn't look like there was a restaurant there. Driving down to the other end of the yard though, where a few cars were parked, revealed a decorated outdoor seating area at the end of the building and lit windows of the dining room. The atmosphere is really cute and strangely cozy considering when we first pulled up it was in an almost industrial looking building.
