I've been to the castle many times but never to The carriage House to eat. The food was delicious. Our waitress Kat was great too. She has a great sense of humor. Can't wait to go back in warmer weather.

Simple, Hearty Cafe, in a Historic SettingThis is the restaurant for the "Castle in the Clouds;" we came for the Christmas event, had a cocktail as we waited for the trolley; and dinner after we finished the mansion tour.?The Carriage House had literally been a carriage house?; and you'll be seated in decorated horse stalls: The entrance is inviting, with a large fireplace, and plenty of room to sit and wait. ?The menu is very much a lunch menu, with burgers, salads, and soups: But the view, is unbelievable, and really, what we all come here for.Dietary restrictions: A few Gluten-free options, not much

Enjoy lunch with a spectacular view! Their menu has something for everyone. You can choose between sandwiches, burgers, salads, or appetizers. The outdoor dining provides an amazing view of the surrounding mountains and lakes. Inside, you can learn about the history of the building and enjoy a meal.

It was a fun tour not much to see after the self castle tour, the view is beautiful lots of history to take in and interesting things to see in the castle the architecture is amazing

The castle itself is nice, but the real selling point is the amazing views of the surrounding lakes. If that isn't nice enough, there is also an amazing trail (free) with 7 waterfalls. The staff are really friendly and tell you about the place, and answer any questions you have. It is a bit of history with breathtaking views. Highly recommended!

We visited on a Sunday morning shortly after they opened up. It's a very well organized event from the moment you park your car. You'll walk past the building that houses the gift shop and make your way to the carriage house which houses a gallery, restaurant, and restrooms. There are plenty of hiking trails on the property ranging from all different levels of expertise. To get to the Castle, you will hop on a trolly for a few minutes to take up the narrow and windy road. You'll watch a 7 minute video on the history of the property and then take a self-guided tour throughout the house...except the basement which is an additional price. There were tour guides in each room to explain the significance of each room as well as placards. The house was beautiful, very charming, with lots of history. Did I mention the fantastic views? It's worth the trip. This was not a tour for babies and toddlers. There were signs throughout the residence not to touch or sit down on anything but that didn't stop the parents from letting their toddlers run around hyped up. I blame the parents and not the kids. Please keep them at home. This is not a place for them. My opinion is 8 years and up. The price of the tour was very reasonable and the entire staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.

Definetly a must see. Take basement tour. Helpful volunteers on main floor, your guide in basement very well informed. Food at Carriage house was good. Had a salad with chicken. Others had a smash burger, chicken salad sandwich. All very tasty and well presented. Waitress very prompt and attentive

We waited 30 minutes for a table as plenty of tables were empty, then once we sat we waited another 30 minutes plus and no one took our order inspite of us asking. The menu was a bit foodservicy so having enjoyed the view for all this time we decided there were much better food options elsewhere. The slowest table service I have ever seen. Plenty of ways to enjoy the pretty view without the pain of dreadful slow service!

If you don't mind being kind of bored, this place is okay. Yes, the scenery is delightful. But you can experience marvelous vistas all over the lakes region, so sightseeing at the Castle is nothing out of the ordinary. All in all, kinda boring.

Make sure you arrive extra early or it isnt worth the out of the way drive. They close sometimes for events and are short staffed which makes it hard to get anyone on the phone and the website doesn't show the calendar so you may arrive to find a sign saying sorry for the inconvenience but we're closed! The view is nice but that's all you'll see if you end up arriving when it's closed.

I'm a resident of the area and have visited numerous times. To be clear, it is a must-see mansion coupled to a great and tragic rags-to-riches-to-rags story of history. The issue is that the Conservation Commission and docents tolerate you because they have to. You get the feeling from all of them that the only reason you're there is your entry money. You will be treated disrespectfully, and you will get the unwelcome treatment from all of them. None of them will look you in the eye, and what comments you get from them is about what you shouldn't do. I have brought many visitors there - that's why I have so many visits myself. I really would have loved to treat the last group to the outdoor lunch at the carriage-house restaurant, but the website clearly says it is NOT open this season. Come to find out, after I got there, it is open. It's only two afternoons a week, and only open "to our friends, so we didn't want to advertise it" according to the docent. Wow - guess I'm not a friend.... Like I said, you're either "an insider" or tolerated because they have to tolerate you (i.e. an outsider). There are no other categories. Regardless of the fact that YOU will never really be welcome there, it is an amazing architectural wonder, a great story of the original owners, and well worth the visit. A must see - but only once.

Lucknow estate is an authentically restored mansion from the early 2900s. There are several docents stationed throughout the house to answer questions and provide further insights. The self guided tour starts with a short video. The $20 price of admission includes a trolley ride up to the front door. The conservation area also includes plenty of hiking trails and a large events area

I've only had the morning buffet once, but it was decadent and delicious, just like the views.
