I've been coming to the Riverworks for over 30 years and seen several owners come and go, adding to the tradition of friendly service, relaxing ambience and great food each time. Here's to another 30 at least!~

They were really accommodating with my dietary restrictions. They made it feel like it wasn't a problem at all, I will definitely be back!

Service is always great, the staff is wonderful, always friendly, engaging and quite often entertaining!
The prime rib special was absolutely delicious. One of the best prime rib dinners I've ever had. It was cook perfectly. So tender, juicy and to top it off, it was huge!
I had an entire meal of it the following night and it was still delicious!

We ended up here because it was one of the few places open Sunday afternoon. A cozy place with good menu selection. The food was excellent and the service was even better.

With a party of 8 (3 adults, 3 teens, and a pair under 3), three generations. We were seated rather quickly. We had a great corner table with just enough room. The atmosphere, food, and service were all excellent. We had a great time visiting with one another over burgers, pasta, and pizza. We would definitely come back again.

Expensive and horrible service with middling food. I have no idea how this place has a 4.6 rating. It has a quintessential NE pun look, but the tables are tiny as are the seats. Add this up and it is 1.5, not 4.6

We hosted a private event at Riverworks and it was absolutely perfect! The owner, Marcy, was so accommodating with a custom menu, and the upstairs space worked out beautifully. Chris, our server (and Riverworks manager), was fantastic - friendly, helpful, and made everything run smoothly. The food was absolutely delicious - our guests loved the chicken piccata, steak tips, chicken fingers, wings, and the massive potato skins. I only wish I had taken pictures of the food to show how amazing it was. Highly recommend for any special occasion!

We might have been unlucky as other reviews are better but this was a disappointing meal, saved somewhat by a helpful and apologetic server.
The steak tips for my wife were overcooked, tasted burnt and were served with spinach and broccolini drowned in garlic. The server took them back and off the bill without argument and offered a replacement but we didn’t want to wait for something else to be cooked.
So we shared the nachos with chicken I had ordered. They didn’t come with salsa, guacamole or sour cream but the server did find some sour cream when we asked. There were a few shreds of chicken dotted around and plenty of cheese but overall rather dry.
Restaurants don’t always get it right and we weren’t charged for the steak tips but not our best evening out.

Went there for the award winning chicken tenders, but it was the chowder that stole the show.

Cozy tavern vibe with a friendly staff that makes newcomers feel like regulars.

A Must-Visit in Newmarket: The Riverworks

We keep telling ourselves to try new places, but we always end up right back at the Riverworks—and for good reason. This cozy, welcoming spot has become our go-to in Newmarket. Whether you’re plant-based or just looking for great food, there are always at least two solid vegetarian options on the menu.

Just yesterday, John had the House-Made Black Bean & Corn Burger, topped with fried onion and herbed goat cheese. I went for the Gouda-Brie-Heirloom Tomato Grilled Cheese with fig preserve on sourdough. Paired with their perfectly crispy fries, it was tray-licking good—I even joked with the bartender/owner that it was “awful” as I pushed my crumb-free tray towards her, just to emphasize how delicious it was. I meant to ask for the chef to come out so I could compliment him in person!

If you sit at the bar, chances are you’ll end up chatting with the owner and the super friendly staff. They greet you like you’re part of the crew—it must be a great place to work because the good energy is contagious.

The beverage menu is smart, always rotating with the seasons. I tried the Dolce Vita yesterday—a mix of Tito’s, Limoncello, and a house-made basil syrup (or something like that)—and it was delicious. We even split a slice of strawberry cheesecake with a candied crust that snapped with a spoon but melted in the mouth.

We’ve brought several friends here, and we’ll keep doing so. Bonus points for the town itself—no parking meters, so you can park anywhere on the main drag. After your meal, be sure to walk down to the river. Just past the old stone buildings, there are stairs leading down to a series of lovely waterfalls. It’s pure New England charm.

In short: Don’t visit Newmarket without a meal (and a beverage) at the Riverworks. And don’t visit the Riverworks without taking a stroll through this beautiful little gem of a town.
