Went for an early dinner today and left completely disappointed and slightly disgusted. My husband and I have been looking forward to coming back to Barley and Salt after a great experience and meal a few years back. No idea what happened or why the food and service have gone downhill, but we know we won’t be back again. Save your time and money and check out any of the other delicious restaurants in and surrounding the Conway area.
This place used to be amazing. I don't know what's happened, but it's fallen off a cliff recently, which is honestly too bad. Used to be one of my favorite places in NoCo. The service was rather abysmal - after being seated, it was a LONG time until anyone came over to get our drink order. Then once we got our drinks and got our food ordered, we didn't see our own actual server until about 10 minutes after both of us had finished our meals and were looking for our check. Someone else brought the food out to us, and not a single soul came and checked on us to ask if we needed anything (and I did - more below), and we were seated right near the door in full view of the host station, who could very clearly see us and see that we were done as they were just standing there chatting! And this wasn't at a busy time of day, about 3:30pm or so. The restaurant was far from packed. I had the street corn pork sandwich and my wife had the chicken lo mein. Both of our dishes were spicy, so much so that I really wanted water or something to help flush the spice taste out of my mouth. Problem was, there was no server that came to ask if we needed anything, so there I was chugging down my alcoholic drink as quickly as I possibly could! My wife said the Lo Mein was also spicy and made the flavor profile completely wrong on it. So I have the following suggestions: 1. Don't know what happened to our server that we never saw her again between getting our drinks and asking for our check, but that's a huge concern during a non-busy time of day. 2. For a menu that seems to be very specific about what's in each dish, why wasn't it revealed that either of ours was spicy? Wouldn't that seem to be something you'd want to tell people? Are we the only people on the planet who don't do spicy food? 3. Speaking of menu specifics, the pork sandwich came with pickles (which I don't like), they are not mentioned on the menu. Why mention a bunch of specific ingredients, but not the pickles? I would have asked you to hold them if I saw them listed there. I'm sorry to say we won't be back. Hope you enjoy all the publicity from Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, because you've permanently lost us as customers.
Absolutely INCREDIBLE! The atmosphere is so charming and the food is out of this world. We got the garlic Parmesan wings, burger, and pretzels! We live over an hour away and will be back again!
This used to be a favorite spot. Unfortunately, food quality has gone down, as well as service. We waited about 20 minutes to order one night after being seated, the room was half empty. The beef stew used to be very good, its awful now. Disappointing across the board.

A little on the pricy side but good food and service. Music is quite loud, but a good tune selection.

You can't order ahead they have a robot answer their calls and cannot go further than that seems like a good way to lose business who just want food for pickup

Very disappointed after visiting the north Conway nh location. Food is low quality and over priced. My wife ordered grilled chicken with Romain lettuce and cucumbers. Was charged 16 dollars for the lettuce and cucumbers plus 7 dollars for grilled chicken. I ordered Raman with seasoned pork belly for 32 dollars which tasted like canned beef broth with microwaved instant Raman noodles with raw shredded carrots and broccoli.. this place is non-authentic and pretentious as it gets!!
Kid-friendliness: 12 dollars for microwaved pasta with butter.

Quick wait, excellent service, and amazing food! The Thai Coconut Chicken Tacos were delicious. My only request is that I wish they had a mocktail menu!

Incredible! Best broccoli cheddar soup I've ever had! The only thing I'd change is getting a bigger portion of it!
