I had a very nice quiet family dinner here on our last night in Portsmouth. I'm used to being disappointed by Italian restaurants, and Cafe Mediterraneo was pleasantly surprising. Service was friendly but otherwise average. The Caesar salad was weak, and I wouldn't order that again. The house salad was better, although nothing special. My wife and I, not from Portsmouth, were looking at the menu outside the front entrance as a diner was entering and told us we wouldn’t be disappointed. Without reservations we were told the wait would be 20 to 30 minutes but seating at the bar was available. Are we glad we chose the bar seats.
