We were visiting Portsmouth and were looking for something different so we ate dinner at Durbar Square Restaurant. What a great choice! The atmosphere is fantastic, the food delicious and the staff were wonderful. We met John the owner, who was very gracious and made us feel very welcome in his place. Try it out. It was a special evening

Best restaurant in Portsmouth and the people saying it’s not good don’t understand difference between authenticity in Nepalis cuisine in Nepal and in America.Beautiful food and restaurant keep it up

Fantastic food. The food was perfectly spiced and flavorful. The staff was friendly and helpful. We didn't have to wait long for our order to come either. By far, my favorite restaurant in the area so far.

Nepalese in Portsmouth was unexpected and the food was authentic.. nice independent ethnic restaurant in the heart of the city. Get the momo. Sit upstairs by a window and watch the people

Thank you for such an incredible lunch. The owner couldn’t have helped more and took the time to explain all the meals and asked how spicy we’d like the food. Can’t recommend this restaurant enough… incredible experience, thank you to all the staff and chefs. Can’t wait to return…

We paid for the food, but couldn’t even bring ourselves to finish it. I’m genuinely confused by the high ratings. The lamb momos were dry and completely lacking in flavor. The veggie noodles tasted like cheap instant noodles tossed with scraps of old broccoli and peppers, smothered in sriracha. My five-year-old nephew could cook a better meal. The restaurant itself was just as bad—the air inside smelled off, the menus were sticky with grease, and the outside reeked of sewage. We ended up leaving and going to the Italian place around the corner. A total waste of money.

I had a good experience with this place. Simple menu but had many vegan choices. Nice service and ambience. Seating is on the second floor to my knowledge if people want to know.

The variety of complex spice and interesting flavors was enjoyed by all as we shared around the table. Portions are generous with plenty of vegetables and not drenched in too much sauce. The service staff was attentive, polite and prompt. If you've got an adventurous palette this is a winner.

Located in the very center of historic Portsmouth, NH, in a gorgeous building over 100 years old. You can sit in the upstairs windows and look out into the streets while enjoying your meal. Most dishes can be made with meat or tofu, meaning there’s a large variety of options. It’s Nepalese food so there’s some curries, noodles, and rice dishes. My favorite is the sweet potato takari which is a red curry sauce with vegetables and rice. If you are unable to eat spicy food, they can make it very mild for you. And if you are not very adventurous, they have a noodle dish, that even the least adventurous eaters will enjoy. Very friendly staff and the owner is wonderful.

Vegetarian options: Many dishes are clearly labeled vegan, and many others could easily be made vegan. Their dish bases are vegetable, so it’s very easy to find vegan options. They have a vegan carrot dessert that’s delicious as well

So glad we tried this place! I'd had momos before but didn't know anything else about Nepalese cuisine. We were told that this is the best place to eat in Portsmouth, so we tried it and were absolutely delighted. The chicken momos were bursting with flavor. The ginger duck was gingery and umami and delicious. The plantain tarkari was fresh and savory and tomatoey and luscious. We inhaled everything they put on the table for us. The adults loved it, the teenager loved it, and we all agreed we'd make the trip back to eat this delicious food in a lovely dining room served by gracious and happy people. A+ dining experience.

Vegetarian options: A full third of the menu is vegan, so this is a great place for vegetarians and meat-eaters to go together with no one feeling stressed about what to order

The wild boar was delicious and the medium spice level for me was perfect. My husband had the chicken and mushroom curry dish, it looked delicious but for once I was dedicated to my plate more. Do be aware that the bread IS an add on, but it's worth it as it is delicious with the dipping sauce it comes with. Service was attentive and the outside seating is my fave, since I love to people watch.
