Bar staff (Lilly and Peter) super friendly and welcoming, and wait staff (John) amazing. Excellent experience as always. The special birthday dessert cannoli with accompanying candle was a very sweet gesture.
We stay overnight in Portsmouth every January as a tradition and decided to try Massimo for our dinner with friends this year. What a wonderful, classy restaurant! It's no wonder they've been around as long as they have. Food was delicious, can certainly tell everything is made fresh!! The pasta made in house was perfect and service was above and beyond! We felt welcomed from the moment we walked in to the time we left after chatting with staff at the end of the night.
The meal was top notch and our server, Savannah, was outstanding. Her knowledge of the menu and wine pairing provided for a truly enjoyable experience.
Loved everything! From cocktails, to apps, meals and dessert. Such a cute authentic spot as well. Definitely returning!
One of the best dining experiences we've had! Eating out is one of our favorite things to do and Massimo has been on our list for years. The staff was welcoming, our server was attentive, humorous and personable and the food was incredible! We loved that Massimo came over to check in on our experience. We can't wait to go back!
Went for the 1st time for my anniversary and it was definitely the right choice. Had a nice little corner table in a small room. Waitstaff all wished us a Happy Anniversary. Our waitress Kristen explained the menu and wine list. Brought out delicious bread right away. We ordered the meatballs and carbonara appetizer and it was so good. Carbonara was the best I've ever had. My wife ordered the filet which was only ok but she still liked it. I had the veal chop and it was tender and cooked perfectly. The prosciutto wrapped potatoes were to die for. Cannot wait to go back
Always fantastic, but our experience there last night were beyond amazing. Savannah was our server and she along with Massimo and staff were just wonderful. The food was and is always delicious. My daughter had a lovely birthday dinner. Thank you❤️
Massimo was truly an outstanding dining experience. The food was exquisite. Menu showed creative dishes with a definite Northern Italian flare. The atmosphere is small and quaint with 10 tables. Our server's name was Cat. She was a seasoned professional who took extreme pride in her work. She guided us through the evening making even more enjoyable.
Ristorante Massimo doesn't disappoint and I feel you don't see many restaurants like this anymore. It has an old fashioned old world charm to it. The service is impeccable and our meals were delicious, innovative and elegant one dish after another starting with the arancini, carbonara, pan seared halibut, veal saltimbocca and Tiramisu that was a work of art!
We have been before and the quality of the food never disappoints. Each time, they did forget to bring us something we ordered which is odd. First time they gave it to us. This time they just apologized. Still would go back because we don't get food this well prepared often.

Always look forward to dining here at least once a year. Enjoyed the Amertriciana as a substitute for Bolognese.
Excellent restaurant. We always love it! Service was a bit slow which we are not used to here. Waited almost 30 mins for our cheese board and wine took a bit to get refills. Otherwise excellent.
A very quaint restaurant in a super location. Service was friendly and attentive. Two of us ordered the duck entree and it arrived cold and, in our opinion, very rare. The duck was also a challenge to cut. Being New Years Eve, we decided to not return and just eat. I only ate half of one piece and the other guest ate one of the two pieces. The shrimp in the $18 appetizer were extremely small and we all agreed we thought they would be much larger . Our other guest ordered the carbonara and thought it was very good. His entree arrived hot. We agreed that our stay was very relaxed and enjoyable . Two of us felt the quality of the food was only fair.
We sat at the upstairs bar. Our server Lily was very charming and attentive. The martini and manhattan we ordered were first-rate (my wife likes her martini very dry and Lily actually paid attention to the request.) I would rate Lily's knowledge of wine pairings to be somewhat limited (she recommended a Nebbiolo to go with ravioli with cream sauce... hmmm) They have a nice selection of wines at reasonable prices. Our Chianti reserva was quite good and Lily was happy to decant for us. Food service was prompt and nicely paced. The halibut with artichoke hearts was quite good, although a tiny bit fishy. My very substantial portion of veal with sage and prosciutto was excellent.
Yet another spectacular meal at Massimo's! Dave, behind the bar was terrific. One of the best Vespa's I've ever had as well as an excellent wine recommendation for dinner. While my Saltimboca was excellent, my wife's filet was quite possibly the finest piece of beef I've ever tasted. We have to find a way to enjoy Massimo's more often!
