The DJ is extremely rude and won’t take song requests. Will actually yell at you , ruined the vibe.
The food was good but significantly overpriced for what you get. At least it was for the fish and clams.

Gas Light in Portsmouth, NH, offers a lively and inviting atmosphere perfect for enjoying a casual meal or drinks with friends. The exposed brick and wood-fired stone oven create a cozy yet energetic vibe that captures the essence of downtown Portsmouth. I was impressed by the attentive and friendly service, with bartenders who were attentive without being intrusive. The menu features crowd-pleasers like wood-fired pizzas, including their specialty Gaslight pizza, which had a pleasantly crispy crust and flavorful toppings. The chicken wings were perfectly cooked and well-seasoned, making them an excellent starter. I enjoyed the warmth and vibrant feel of the pub setting, which also offers live entertainment and a dog-friendly patio—a great spot if you're visiting with pets. Prices felt fair given the generous portions and quality. While some reviews mention occasional kitchen delays or food inconsistencies, my experience was smooth and satisfying. It’s a nice spot to unwind after a day exploring Portsmouth, with good drink options and a welcoming ambiance. I would recommend Gas Light if you’re looking for a lively, local dining experience with solid pub fare and good company. The one downside might be the busier times when service can slow, but overall it’s a dependable choice for casual dining in the neighborhood.

Absolutely atrocious business. Terrible service and on top extremely toxic work environment, management actively harasses employees and said employees are complacent or even engage in said harassment towards fellow employees and customers. Do not support this business as you will be condoning workplace harassment and a genuinely terrible restaurant.

Chicken was dry. Steak was overcooked. Management doesn't have a clue how to run a restaurant

I hope this gets to the owner or a manager. We had the most disappointing experience this evening. We called yesterday (10/12) and made a reservation for 8 people for 6pm today (10/13).
When we arrived we were told there was no reservation and to go downstairs. When we spoke to the woman downstairs, she said, “I’m not lying, you don’t have a reservation.” Every single staff member we spoke with was rude and unhelpful. A younger woman in a pink polo was absolutely nasty to us, to the point where we were handed the reservation book by a manager “to prove” there was no reservation…guess what? Our reservation was RIGHT THERE, but the person who took it wrote it incorrectly. When we pointed this out to the rude girl in the polo shirt, she didn’t even apologize (and she was likely the person who took the reservation, since she adamantly declared she was the person taking reservations when we called yesterday).
This event was for a birthday, a special occasion. We chose the Gaslight because we have celebrated special events there before and hoped for the same great experience. Unfortunately the staff was so rude and unprofessional that we will likely never return. We walked across the street to the River House and were seated immediately and treated with grace and hospitality.
Gaslight should be ashamed the employees lack of professionalism.
A simple “my mistake, I’m sorry” would have been absolutely fine. Our family understands that restaurants get busy, mistakes happen, and staffing is tough. But between three staff members being rude and unprofessional, and one woman actually yelling at our party, we are done.

Cute place and had live music the night of my visit. Very cozy vibes. Food was really good and service was friendly. Recommend the crab cakes!
Clean with nice vibe and friendly service. We only had salads for lunch but they were fresh and delicious. Grilled chicken was perfect on top snd dressings were delicious.

A perennial favourite of ours every time we come to Portsmouth. Great food and equally great service. Good value for the price.
