Not a bad place to hang out and have a Drink

Elias Adam (IntentionalBadAim)

I won't ever be coming back here after being a longtime customer. I was told by a night manager to leave while sitting at the bar not talking or drunk and with a friend. No reason was given why I was asked to leave. I was told by staff it was a misunderstanding and to come back. A month later, same manager told me I could not enter in the early night, was not drunk and well dressed even. No reason was given. Infuriating and disrespectful as I have spent multiple thousands of dollars here over the years on drinks and food and always made an effort to be polite to staff. Another downside, during the summers the rudest tourists end up here. Some positives though, bartenders and wait staff are very professional and polite. Other positive is owner seems nice and tries to keep prices low. Place has possibly best prices in town. But overall doesn't value long time customers and hear other long time customers are getting similar experiences with being asked to leave with no reason given.

My mother got the famous $9.99 lobster roll and it was mostly mayonnaise and she felt sick for 4 days ..

They have a fun but short menu with a reasonable amount of variety on it despite its brevity. I suggest considering a local seafood option or looking at their specials. The appetizers are quite tasty.

Stopped in after a long drive for a late lunch, we got burgers which were huge and super juicy with lots of flavor! The price was really good too! Server was very outgoing and friendly!

Sat at the bar for five minutes with four other patrons. Bartender looked at us and turned around to fill the sugars and talk to another customer. Five minutes later another person came and sat at the bar and she immediately served him. We ended up walking out and going to Gas Light.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meals and service here. Everything was delicious. Our table ordered chicken wings, flatbread, lobster salad, chicken sandwich, fried fish and a seafood chowder (absolutely THE best…) loaded with seafood and a light broth. The Cole slaw served w lobster roll was spectacular too. The sizes are 2 meals!!!
Highly recommend the State Street Saloon

I ordered the baked scallops. I wish I had known they were the little ones I expected nice scallops for $27.00. Instead I got 8 tiny scallops in a dish of butter and crumbs. The scallops were so overcooked they were hard. The baked potato tasted like it had been microwaved and was also hard. Stopped here while walking downtown and wish now I hadn't taken the chance. we sat by the window and we're surrounded by gnats or fruit flies for the entire meal. I will say the drinks were good and the service was decent as well.

One of the places you can still go in Portsmouth to feel that old vibe. It's raw, it's unadorned, and it is good.

Seafood Chowder was excellent ?. Service was very fast. Lobster roll was okay and only $9.99.
Fish and Chips kinda sucked though.

The food was nothing special, my cheeseburger was missing the toppings and wasn’t cooked all the way through, and the service was extremely slow.

Friendly server but terrible food.

I ordered a fish and chips plate to go assuming things would be safe- so close to the sea coast.

I got extremely sick 15-20 min after consuming the food.

Called back to express my concerns, trying to avoid posting a bad review but received no call back.

Do not recommend this place.

This is a locals bar. We go her after my bf's bartending gig gets out... we quickly became regulars. They are super cool here. Dont come looking for a quiet drink in a pamered environment, this is a drinking crowd and its usually packed.
