CLOSED - It was great when I ate there a couple of years ago - but as of 25-Jan-24 this restaurant is CLOSED and apparently being remodeled, to include a new roof (saw the building permit).Thank you for four decades of great food and service, Rusty Hammer!?

Meh... pub food. Used to be called 'The Rusty Hammer' (still says that on the wall above the door). In cold weather, if you sit at any of the tables near the door, you will be blasted by the cold wind every time it opens, nothing to block it. Steady business early on a Saturday. Beer selection is so-so. 'Smash' burger - fairly tasteless, bacon overdone, not much cheese. Sheperd's pie, served in a baking dish, was ok, but nothing special.

We held an "after the Portsmouth Christmas Parade" party in the upstairs room. Decorated just for the holidays, the two bartenders were great; Chef came up to check on the food (which also, was great - especially the bacon wrapped scallops!) and the manager was on hand. Nice people, nice and super convenient space, you'd never know it was just above the pub!

Ultimate grilled cheese was absolutely delicious! Server recommendation of waffle over regular fries was spot on!

A Portsmouth legend. The best bar, as in the best actual bar as a piece of furniture, I have ever seen. It is built like a cathedral, with a gentle slope supporting up to 40 elbows at a time. Belly up to the altar and say your prayers.Recommended: fish and chips. They have malt vinegar.

Meh.Spicy fries were inedible from the chili powder. The crab ragoons weren't creamy. The chicken fingers lacked seasoning. The steak bomb sandwich was OK.

Stopped at the restaurant/bar for dinner with the wife. Decent location, short walk from the Hampton Hotel. Great service. Fabulous sweet chili chicken sandwich. Nice selection of local draft beers as well.

Stopped in for a quick bite before seeing a show at The Rep. Service was fast and prices were reasonable. The burgers were great incredible. The Cowboy Smash Burger was perfect, with just enough chipotle bbq sauce (I skipped the jalapeños). The fries were crispy and so good. We will definitely return soon. I want to try the grilled cheese with goat cheese and tomato or the apple salad! Everything looked so good and it will for sure be a new tradition before hitting the theater.

Service was terrible food was about the same. Had to ask for napkins. Water, She had to come back to the table 3 times to ask about our order.Had to ask to pay and had to find someone to take the CC cards.Lots of better places to grab a beer and a sandwich.
