A charming evening with thoughtful service and a well-composed plate. The swordfish almondine featured a flavorful topping and beautifully charred vegetables, though the fish itself was thinner and drier than expected, and could’ve used a touch more seasoning. Service was attentive and warm throughout. Overall, a pleasant experience in a lovely setting — just shy of exceptional due to execution. I will return.
Beautiful restaurant situated near the harbor waters (a short walk over)
The food was delicious! Very fresh ingredients.
Order the Harvard Beet salad for a refreshing summer treat.
The Scottish Sea Trout was so delicate and mouthwatering!
Went for my birthday, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Crispy chicken.. juicy, tender, and flavorful. Bread pudding.. brought me home. The service was friendly and personalized. They went above and beyond. The atmosphere is cozy. Highly recommended!
Excellent meal from start to finish. Food was outstanding. We are so happy to have found the Puddle Dock in Portsmouth, we will definitely eat there on our next trip!
The food was good, but what really made the night was our waiter, David. His service was excellent, he was personable and knowledgeable about the menu.
Our second time dining here and it was perfect. Enjoy the unique dishes and combination of flavors. My husband enjoyed the fried lobster appetizer, and I'm a sucker for foie gras. The strawberry shortcake was among the best we ever had - almonds and sugar sprinkled on and baked atop the biscuit - pure genius and delicious!
A favorite stop in Portsmouth. Great food and service in a building with a lot of historical charm.
The food was great, service was wonderful. Still the best bread pudding in the world! I liked it better when it was served on a bowl steeped in the caramel sauce but it was wonderful just the same.
I had the scallops $60 and was artfully presented and tasted very good but a bit pricey for scallops. Husband had cottage pie because non-seafood options were limited. Said was good cottage pie but nothing extraordinary. Service and ambiance were excellent. Water choices were sparkling, still or “regular.” We chose the regular but some ice and a slice of lemon would have been a nice touch.

Absolutely amazing experience! From start to finish, everything was exceptional. The Portsmouth Chowder and Bread Pudding are must orders—absolutely incredible and full of flavor. The atmosphere was simple yet elegant, with a quaint and serene vibe that made for a relaxing evening. Service was top-notch—attentive, friendly, and never rushed. We will definitely be back again. A hidden gem worth every visit!
Food was exceptional - the rich, creamiest seafood chowder I've had, without being heavy. Had the “Portuguese” cod as entree and it was a symphony of flavors, fantastic. My wife had the trout with leeks, which she raved about. Finished with the strawberry shortcake which was terrific. Staff was professional, warm, and attentive! Bit of a drive for us to get to Portsmouth, but Puddle Dock is well worth it!!
Second time with a party of 4 this time. All meals and drinks were just as ordered. It was our friends first time there and they loved it.
Excellent location with parking - food was amazing, everything from appetizers to dessert. Everyone was kind and friendly, great service.
Facility was noisy and food was overpriced. Weight staff continually tried to clear the table as they clearly wanted to turn tables over rapidly. I will not return here.
