Always a pleasure to have the opportunity to eat at the Puddle Dock. The food is fantastic and the service is outstanding. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal and a great atmosphere. It's the perfect date night place or gathering spot for friends and family!
We had a wonderful evening and the staff was excellent including a Birthday greeting for our 4-yr old granddaughter
We were seated upstairs near the window and had beautiful views of the Halloween Parade! The food and service were 10/10. Espresso martini was perfect.
My duck was delicious, but my partner had the Colonial Cottage Pie and ended up extremely ill overnight. We had excellent service, and the Portsmouth chowder was amazing. I doubt I'll get him to go back because of the reaction he had immediately following dinner. Everything else was good.
Puddle Dock is located in an historic building near the Strawbery Banke Museum. It has a varied menu, which we appreciated after so much fish and seafood. We were seated by the toasty fireplace - perfect for a chilly evening. Our meal started with bread and butter and a refreshing pear, blue cheese salad made with interesting greens. We ordered the short ribs, accompanied by corn porridge and roasted brussels sprouts, and the colonial pie, an upgraded beef stew. We selected a red wine from an ample offering. Both meals were very flavorful and enjoyable. The final touch was sharing the cinnamon-rum bread pudding and coffee. So good! We're very happy that we stumbled upon Puddle Dock. It is in a charming building and has a well-crafted menu. Our servers were attentive and personable. The experience was what you always hope for when you try a restaurant you haven't been to before. Highly recommend!
Excellent food in a lively colonial space. Done standouts were the Harvard beers, four grad, chowder, cod, Yorkshire pudding and cottage pie. Oh, and the apple custard pie. Excellent drinks, too. The only hiccup was being served our appetizer before we received our cocktails which is a big error in my book, for a restaurant of this caliber. But otherwise very good service. Definitely a place to return to.
The foot was outstanding. The Cesar salad was delicious. The duck dinner was tasty and Devine. The fireplace was going and set the ambiance.
Just a great restaurant. Higher end food quality and service so you expect the higher prices but definitely not one to miss. We'll be back!
Scottish sea trout was excellent. Tender and flavorful with a nicely crisped skin. Another person at table chose the duck breast and thought it very good with crispy skin and tender meat. Garnished with pear and sweet potato. Try the yorkshire pudding appetizer with the unbelievably tender and flavorful piece of short rib with the popover. Pumpkin sticky toffee pudding was a sweet way to end the meal.
Our meals at the Puddle Dock restaurant were amazing. Four of us enjoyed scallops, beets, short ribs and fabulous desserts. It was our fourth trip to this fine restaurant and it has never failed to provide fine dining along with wonderful and informative service. This is the best restaurant in Portsmouth.

Great, intimate ambience. Staff was friendly and attentive. Love the lighting and warm atmosphere. Very enjoyable experience.
We loved it! Great atmosphere and food! They were very accommodating as we added a person and wanted to eat outside on a beautiful evening!
Decor was upscale tavern-like and the ambience was energetic but not too noisy -- we asked for a quiet table and got it. Our server was knowledgeable about the wine/menu, efficient and personable without being intrusive. Overall, it was a lovely evening and we'll return the next time we're in Portsmouth.
A charming evening with thoughtful service and a well-composed plate. The swordfish almondine featured a flavorful topping and beautifully charred vegetables, though the fish itself was thinner and drier than expected, and could’ve used a touch more seasoning. Service was attentive and warm throughout. Overall, a pleasant experience in a lovely setting — just shy of exceptional due to execution. I will return.
Beautiful restaurant situated near the harbor waters (a short walk over)
The food was delicious! Very fresh ingredients.
Order the Harvard Beet salad for a refreshing summer treat.
The Scottish Sea Trout was so delicate and mouthwatering!
