Wow! Loved our visit here. The staff are passionate about their work and it shows. Carlos in the tasting room was fantastic to talk to and so knowledgeable. Will definitely be back.
I have been a VIP member of this wonderful hidden gem since 2021 after being turned on to the establishment first by a colleague, then by a neighbor in 2019 who has been a member for 20+ years.
When I call this establishment a gem, I say it without irony. Their wines are superb, consistent, stable and without a doubt some of of the best that I've had. Ursula and her Team are not only reliable, knowledgeable, and fun, they treat you like a family member every time you visit. For the past 7 years it has always been my go-to winery and I try to indoctrinate as many people as possible to it that I can.
Take it from me, and I will steak my position on this, take a day and visit this finest establishment and sit out by the vineyards with a glass or a bottle with some food on a beautiful day... And find your new home.
P.S - they are waggy tail friendly as well... Bring your precious pup as long as he/she is on a leash to hang out at the tables outside.
A Hidden Gem with a Soulful Flame, Amalthea Cellars Winery
A week ago, I stumbled upon something truly unforgettable, Amalthea Cellars Winery, tucked away in the serene beauty of southern New Jersey. As I walked through the vineyard, feeling the breeze and breathing in the air thick with history and promise, I felt instantly transported. The land speaks here. You can sense the terroir, the labor of love, and the generations who’ve poured themselves into every inch of soil.
From the moment I stepped onto the property, there was a deep sense of warmth, an unspoken invitation to slow down, to savor, and to listen. Not just to the stories told by those who work the vineyard, but to the wine itself. Because here, the wine speaks. It tells tales of the past, of tradition, of an Italian grandfather named Emilio who brought the craft of winemaking to Blue Anchor at just thirteen years old. His grandson, the founder and winemaker of Amalthea Cellars, Louis Caracciolo Jr., grew up in that cellar, absorbing every ounce of wisdom and love. “I came on the scene with an unlit torch, and my grandfather passed the flame,” he says and you can taste that flame in every single glass.
The moment I had my first sip of Terreno Barrel No. 4, I was hooked. This exquisite blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Shiraz was rich and structured, yet balanced with lush, dark fruit, subtle spice, and those smooth, lingering tannins that wrap around your palate like a warm embrace. And the Chardonnay, elegant, crisp, with a graceful nose and a silky finish was like tasting sunlight and sea air captured in a bottle. These weren’t just wines; they were experiences, full of soul and complexity.
What made the experience even more magical was Carlos, our wine guide. With every word, you could hear his devotion to the craft, his depth of knowledge, and his sincere love for what he does. It wasn’t a tasting it was a journey. He brought the wines to life, connecting the story of Amalthea’s past to the glass in our hands. You could feel that what’s happening here isn’t just business, it’s legacy, it’s family, it’s art.
Amalthea Cellars is not just a winery. It’s a living tribute to tradition, passion, and the kind of craftsmanship that can only come from generations of care. It’s where past and present blend like a fine vintage and where every visitor, like me, leaves a little more inspired, a little more in love with wine, and a lot more connected to the beauty of it all.
Thank you, Amalthea, for lighting that spark in me again. I will return again and again because once you experience this kind of magic, it stays with you forever.

Loved the tasting. Great information and history.
Discovered Amalthea by accident and we're so glad we did! The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are amazing. It's a family-run winery that feels like it could be set someplace in Italy or France, but luckily, it's in our backyard in South Jersey. I'm a sommelier and especially enjoyed the Europa V. It's an elegant wine that's surprisingly affordable. Can't wait to go back with my wife!
Me and my boys go to the winery for a tasting and wine purchasing just about six times a year. The Cantina Mas can’t be beat. It truly is a great blend that changes every quarter. All their wines are great. We look forward to a wine tasting and sitting outside in the courtyard at one of the tables and drinking and eating. I recommend you join the VIP club which is an excellent value. Ralph Barrella.
Great staff, atmosphere, educational and most important - the wine is some of the best I’ve ever had !
Great experience. Can’t say anything more positive. The property is beautiful, the service was great oh they have wine as well. Thank you guys.
Beautiful winery. Wonderful people, great atmosphere ?
We enjoy coming for a tasting and a bottle. We've bought more than 18 bottles in the past and the Europas are always a favorite to shelve and revisit years in the future. By one now to drink right away and another to save.

Environment is cute. Be prepared for your tasting to 2 hours though. If you have several wineries in your schedule, plan accordingly. Extremely slow and chatty.
Great wines and great service
