We've been coming here for years. Last night was a bad experience. The host never smiled and we did not feel welcomed from the beginning. Clearly they were short staffed and our waiter was doing everything from taking orders, to moving chairs. He tried hard but the management didn't seem to support him. When the food arrived, it was not hot. They delivered 5 out of 6 of our meals and we politely waited for th other to arrive. We had to remind the waiter for small things like ice, or greated cheese. While the food itself was very good, the cost has gotten just so outrageous. Definitely not worth the value any more.

Outdoor dining was very pleasant. Our waiter wasn't as attentive as he could be but our meal was delicious. The special was perfect although pricey. The tiramisu was excellent.

Polpo has become a family tradition during our beach vacations, and for good reason. The atmosphere is lively, the service is excellent, and the food is consistently delicious. It's definitely worth an evening out. That said, we were disappointed with our experience this time. We ended up waiting nearly 40 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. Prior to arriving, we even called to let them know our hotel shuttle was running behind and that we would drive over instead. The host assured us it wouldn't be an issue. However, when we checked in, we were told “1 minute” but weren't informed of any additional delay. After about 20 minutes, my husband asked for an update and was met with a curt response: “You checked in 15 minutes past your reservation time.” We completely understand being a little late can cause a wait, and we anticipated that. What was disappointing was the way it was handled. Having both worked in the industry for over a decade, we would have expected a simple acknowledgment of the delay or even a standard “just a few more minutes” update, anything other than the dismissive comment. That would have gone a long way in easing the frustration. Despite this hiccup, Polpo remains one of our favorites, and we'll look forward to dining here again on our next visit.

Let's face it. The overall quality of restaurants in Avalon and Stone Harbor often leave something to be desired. Not so at Polpo. Everything about our evening, the food, the service our waitress Emily was first class. They didn't miss a beat.

It was a birthday dinner and we ere seated outside. The noise level extremely loud due to a table of 12 with kids seated in front of us. The service was very good. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. Out of our 3 entrees, the chicken parm came out thin and rubbery and tough. My husband couldn't eat it. Did not send it back....definitely should have.

Good meal... very noisy inside but we expected that. Service is a little disorganized.... our waiter was good but the other help were not responsive to requests for cheese/hot peppers for the meal.... Overall pretty good

My chicken dish was very good but it came with nothing else on the plate...no pasta, no veggie or any garnish. My husband's steamed clams were tough, chewy & impossible to swallow without the risk of choking. To our surprise we were able to order wine..either a bottle or a split. The split was perfect for us. Our dessert of tiramisu was delicious & coffee/cappuccino hot & foamy. Must say it was very crowded & extremely noisy. The server did an excellent job. We would consider going back knowing what we know now.

Had to ask twice to get a knife for my meat. When room inside filled, very noisy. The watermelon and feta was amazing! Waiter George was stretched too thin!
We had three of the specials: lobster ravioli (2), osso buco, short ribs, along with two caesar salads and a polpo appetizer. Fantastic meal! We had a wonderful table tucked in the back on the side which was perfect with a 15 month old. You can never go wrong with Polpo. While I've eaten many meals here, I think it's always best to get one of their specials.

Food was very good overall. Good value since it's a BYOB. Got seated about 20 minutes later than our reservation. Service staff were good but stretched for a late summer Friday night. We will definitely try Polpo again.
