My wife and I are on the #eatjersey challenge to have a meal in all 564 towns of NJ. We chose The Columns for Avon, our 104th town. If you're looking for an "old school" Jersey Shore dining experience, you have to visit The Columns! It's been a summer bar & restaurant since 1883 located in a Victorian era mansion.
The indoor section has live music and turns into more of a bar/club scene at night. On a warm summer evening, we sat on the outdoor patio overlooking the ocean for dinner, even as the band played indoors. The atmosphere feels like a trip back in time when the entire shore was lined with grand old buildings like this.
Food & cocktails were on point. We had the Surf-n-Turf roll with lobster & steak, fried calamari, Seafood Mediterranean, and a Lobster roll. Service was great, and the crew was excited when they heard about our challenge.

We love going to the Columns because they have good food and a super nice view of the ocean from their wrap around porch which is their dining area. If you don't have time to wait to get on the list, you can always go to the back bar and order some light fare and grab a table for a self service type deal. They also have a lot of good live bands.

Got my own silverware after waiting 20 min. Could not get server 's attention.
Casual Out door dining Ocean and Beach Views. Family Friendly... Lunch and Dinner only. Nice sip, eat and talk place. Also live evening entertainment. Open in season... "Bumed" by removal of crab cakes from the menu!!!
The food was amazing here. I had a seafood pasta and it was so much food that I saved half. They had country music playing on the outside patio and I was loving it. The view was beautiful. I’d love to come back some night when there is live music because the inside bar and stage looked fun.

It's a great restaurant and bar right across the street from the boardwalk. Food was good, staff was great and outdoor seating in the summer is a must.
