If you want an authentic NJ Italian spot that never fails to deliver you're looking for Belmont Tavern. Cash-only and rough around the edges but you really can't go wrong on their menu. The only suggestion is to go with a big group and get there before they open to secure your spot. We went with a group of 8 which is about the max they can do and we got to try and share things family style. Chicken Savoy, Murphy Chicken, cavatelli and pot cheese are some of the highlights....
You can travel the world...I do...and find fancier dining with little effort. But few restaurants anywhere can match the mouth watering food and old school atmosphere of the Belmont Tavern. Both the Chicken Savoy and Chicken Murphy...make sure to ask for both Hot and Sweet with potatoes and peppers...are beyond delicious (and simply can't be duplicated). You will dream about them for weeks! The Pasta (go for the Penne which is lighter than the Cavatelli) in the red sauce...
