Huge part of my life growing up in NJ. When I moved away, I would sometimes have them ship me a loaf of cheese bread and whenever NJ friends were coming to visit, I'd ask them to stop at Mastoris to get me a loaf. Though they had to buy two because they would devour one loaf in the car on the way.
Joe was our waiter and he was outstanding. He brought us refills and other things before we had to ask for them. I'd go back just to have him service us again The pork chops were delicious but the crab cakes with very dry wild rice were not as good. I am very understanding of the difficulties that the Mastoris restaurant has because of Covid and staffing. However, the Mastoris kitchen needs to do a better job preparing their food. The menu has been cut back from previous years. I wouldn't tell you not to go but don't order the crabcakes.
Wow! This place is a shell of its former self. We picked it for the location- half way between us and our daughter house. Over the years we've had many nice meals . When we pulled in and saw the empty parking lot we were shocked. Next a sign on the door said “ No breakfast Mon- Fri” What diner in Jersey doesn't serve breakfast? On weekends they serve breakfast buffet style . The buffet was ok nothing special. The price was ok. Our server was nice. I'm just not sure how they are going to keep this place open.
Terrible service, terrible selection and not only was the food terrible, the food made us sick. Used to be a great place, but now a great disappointment
the food was very very good, the noise was a little loud. the service for most part was outstanding. the chef was touching our christmas gifts that we were told to put on the long table but he did not like that we put our christmas gifts on the table.
Came in last night on recommendation of others. Great dissapointment. Chicken pot pie was like chicken noodle soup without noodles. Crust was good. Other order of turkey and dressing only slightly better. Stuffing was dry and salty, small portion of turkey.
This was a favorite restaurant for years for my family. We haven't been there due to pandemic for about 2 years. We returned today and we were so disappointed. The food was horrible, service bad and it took a very long time to get our food which came out of order- soup came last after entree. We asked for more bread, never got it! We found out from the waiter that the restaurant was sold! Explained it all! Very poor!!
Breaks my heart, for 35 years my family came there and had great meals and memories. We Went up the famous steps to a sign that said “no breakfast Monday thru Friday” ??? At a diner??? I took my daughter and wife there tonight and all three of us had the worst meal of our lives. Extremely new waitresses who were embarrassed to deliver the food coming from the kitchen . Cold soup, Burnt and hardened steaks (took home and dog would eat), dried out chicken and turkey. Microwaved mashed potatoes and rice that arrived in lumps and were not even hot. Vegetable medley that looked as if it were reheated from yesterday. The menu has 25 plane Jane items and they cannot even cook those. This place died when the original family left. It’s only a matter of time until it’s closure. I paid my bill like it was bailing out of jail..genuinely left sad like a family member died….avoid this place at all cost now
Dinner was terrible. Calimari was over fried, looked as small as bread crumbs. Orders came out wrong. Mozzarella sticks were under cooked and unable to pick up. “Fresh” salsa was from a jar. Caesar salad was wilted and drenched in dressing. Stuffing in Turkey dinner was the consistency of cement. We had reservations for 4:15, did not get seated until almost 5p, right next to the kitchen doors. We had a sleeping baby with us.
I was a bit taken aback by the buffet - patrons unmasked over the chafing dishes and touching spoons one after the other. With another variant of Covid looming, I won't be back to Mastori's anytime soon. Our table hostess was extremely attentive and pleasant however and that was appreciated. The lack of attention to health and safety protocols vis the buffet is gravely concerning.

Was nice! The food was great but the ambiance could have been a bit more romantic or at least relaxing without the bright lights.I don't know if restaurant owners realize that most people like to eat with lighting that's not too bright or too dim.Especially at the end of the day when you want to relax and your eyes hurt. The lighting in the ceiling is so pretty and yet it's not noticable.
Been coming here every once in awhile and everytime the experience is great. Meals are good and the baked goods are delicious. Highly recommend.
Disgusting is the only word I can describe the food. Soggy chicken wings, the chicken parm tasted like leftover lentils. French onion soup was nothing but muddy water with melted cheese on top. Worse food EVER. Waiter was awesome.
Good food, clean rest rooms, great bakery. Probably, the best french onion soup in New Jersey. Our soups were luke-warm and my french fries were cold. Too much vinegar in the cole slaw. Still, I rate Mastoris 4 stars.
Haven't been here for a while. Although I see a lot of reviews about missing the giant menu, I understand what restaurants are going through right now with supply and labor. I found the menu smartly designed. Most of the Mastoris Favorites on the menu and other fresh entrees and appetizers. More selection than other restaurants I have visited since Covid. Clean and well maintained, sharp newly renovated areas, and nice employees! Although we had to wait a few minutes to be seated, (not different form any other place we've been), it was clear that the staff was working hard to satisfy everyone. Our meals were great - fresh, hot and great tasting. Keep it up Mastoris!!
