Went for Weekday Lunch Special Food - 5/5. Salad had a lot of crisp vegetables with the dried cranberries adding a good amount of tart and sweetness. The dressing was a savory yet light ginger dressing that had a nice consistency. Sashimi was cut beautifully and the fatty flavors of the salmon was delicious. The tempura had a doughy yet slightly crunchy batter with a meaty shrimp inside. Grilled fish had good char on the skin and the fish itself was tender. Rice had a good fluff and the miso soup was mellow. Nice bento. Service - 4/5. Friendly and courteous. Value - 4/5. The food tastes good and the makuno u chi bento box lets you taste a little bit of everything at the restaurant. The portion size felt a small as even though you get a variety of food, the total sum of all the food was low for the price tag of $16. Worth a visit with good inclination. Parking - Private Lot (Free)

Great bar with a lot of character. Kinda reminds me of the izakayas I would visit in Tokyo. The owner is very affable. Sushi is solid and priced well. Good laid back place for a beer and Japanese pub food.

Fresh and affordable sashimi. Ika is my favorite nigiri and it's very rare to see a sushi place with fresh ika sushi. Definitely coming back here.

The sushi is very fresh and of fine quality. Had the beef which is served on a heated stone plate which lets you cook to your preference ... delicious. Their Sake selections at the bar are worth the effort of exploring. No surprise they have been around for 30 years. The owner and many of the staff are native Japanese which only adds the overall ambience of this establishment. If there is one criticism, it is not the least expensive establishment I have frequented.

So disappointed with Sushi and sashimi here. All 3 of us can tell some fish like tuna is not fresh at all. Salmon roe has liquor favor but is not that soft as those which can pop in your mouth. Tuna fish and white fish are not soft enough, Sushi rice too. The sushi rice does not taste right. It is bland and dry. The quality of food does not worth for the price. I feel like I am eating ten dollar sushi. We would rather go somewhere else for raw fish. Tempura is just fine, but prefer more fluffy batter for fish.

Authentic Japanese food served by super friendly staff. Sushi chef and owner are Japanese. The food was really good and not too pricey. We got the chicken katsu and kaname special dinner.

My girlfriend and I tried the restaurant tonight and enjoyed ourselves. We had sushi and sashimi and found the fish very fresh. We also ordered miso and a seaweed salad. I typically do not care for miso but this one was the best I ever had. The rice was perfectly cooked. The service was great - everyone was very friendly and attentive. The decor is simple and could use a refresh but I didn't go for the decor. We would go again especially as we liked the fact that it is run by a Japanese family.

A good sushi bar, and it has the feel of a bar, which is a good thing. Guys arguing with the bartender (in Japanese) about the Yankees-Red Sox game. Pretty good sushi too.

Came in around 9:20pm on a Saturday night and Ordered salmon sashimi and a spider roll... the sashimi was sooo fresh and I believe they close at 10pm? But when my girl friend and I walked in everyone had a smile on their face. Loved it. It was my first time here and definitely Won't be my last!! Thanks George!!

Love this place! I've been to lots of sushi restaurants in NYC and Jersey and Kaname has the best value of all them. The pieces of fish for the sushi are huge and fresh! The shrimp shumai is delicious. The tempura udon is great. My family loves coming here...highly recommend it!

The chicken terriyaki and the steak were both excellent as were the salads. The sushi and seafood was okay - not great but not bad. It's clear that the food is freshly prepared as it comes out piping hot - sizzling in fact. You can upgrade most dishes to a "dinner" which includes soup and salad for a nominal fee - otherwise the soups and salads are reasonably priced individually. The owner is clearly a Yankee fan based on the displays in the restaurant so it's probably a great place to catch a game during the season!

Sashimi is the star of this show as this is best sashimi I ever had. I always get the sashimi special as I think this is the best way to experience raw fish. It is always fresh whenever I go. I usually make sure that mackerel, white tuna and yellowtail are included or supplement it with a la carte orders. I always add an order of unagi. This is definitely the best piece of unagi you will ever find! It is not the shriveled up, dry looking piece of eel, but it is succulent, meaty and basted with a delicious Japanese BBQ type sauce. The owner is usually there at the bar (of course, where else would he be!) and always greets you with a big friendly smile. I tried the steak on a stone which was very tender and came with 3 sauces. The sauces were like the ones at a hibachi and complimented the steak very well. I just wish the steak was bigger but it was of very good quality. I highly recommend this place and will be back.
