Went to Matthew’s Italian Restaurant last night for the first time. Exceptional food..food came out hot and was excellent. One of the best restaurants we have been to recently. The waitress was wonderful..Have nothing negative to say about the food, service or any of the help. If you like calamari…the calamari in red sauce over pasta is the best I ever had. You can get it spicy or not spicy. We give this restaurant
FIVE stars
I cannot express how much I appreciate Matthew’s. It’s a truce slice of heaven. Not only is the food out of this world, where it really shines is the staff and the atmosphere. When you come here, you truly become part of the family. I have been eating here whenever I come back to Clifton for over ten years and have never been disappointed. The broccoli and cavatelli is so light it’s like eating a cloud. My dad always gets the snapper and has never been disappointed. You can get amazing food lots of places but what is makes this place truly special is the special care that Matthew and his entire staff pays to you. It’s a tribute to him how much everyone who works there really tries to make it home for every guest. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

First time here and more than met out expectations! Food was great! Matthew himself was accommodating and so friendly. Even with a brief blackout in town the service was still fantastic! We will definitely be back and actually can't wait to go back and try another entrée. Looking so forward to it !

If you want a salad to imitate guzzling balsamic vinegar directly from the bottle, this is for you. The pasta is great, it reminds me of quickly done convenience store pasta we made in college.

Well its not often you find a little gem like this. A quaint restaurant that serves what the owner clams as “arguably the best chicken parm in the country!” And the food stood up to the claim. Started with the seafood salad, poached mussels, shrimp, squid in a lemon vinaigrette. Our main courses consisted of Chicken and veal parm , delicious. Lightly Sautés fresh spinach and garlic. Leave room for dessert. We had the lemon marscapone cake and tiramisu, both homemade and worth every bite.

The service was good, though not quite as exceptional as the owner's. I mentioned to the owner that my Cavatelli with Broccoli was a bit too salty, and he immediately offered to have it remade. I declined, saying it was okay. However, as we were leaving, he handed me a freshly made Cavatelli with Broccoli—this time without the extra salt—and sincerely apologized. He even gave us his business card with his personal number, which was such a kind and thoughtful gesture. That’s the kind of customer care that makes you want to come back. My husband had the Chicken Parm and absolutely loved it—he said it’s easily in his top five. We’ll definitely be returning with family next time!
Matthew 's Restaurant is 1 of the best restaurants in North NJ if NOT The Best. The food is always Delicious & Service is excellent. Beyond that, the atmosphere or aviance is excellent. The vibe & energy is first rate positive fun & culinary enjoyment. I believe that this fine dining experience is also driven by the owner Matthew who is usually in the restaurant greeting guests & helping out. When you visit Matthew's you'll have a great time and it'll feel like you're on mini-vacation from the stress of every day life while seemingly enjoying the warmth of family. It may be a cliche but it's definitely true. 10 stars ⭐ out of 10.
Matthews is my favorite restaurant! It is a five star hidden gem in every category! The food is absolutely awesome! so outrageously delicious! and Matthew and his staff are absolutely terrific! We've never been disappointed. The veal Valentino is our favorite but the chicken Parm is the best around...
We went here for mothers day dinner and our expectations were exceeded. The food was amazing and the service was great. We will be back.

There is no place like home. When you dine at Matthews, you feel like you're eating at Grandma's house, complete with Sunday Sauce on of course Sundays. The food is fabulous. The service is wonderful. Matthew himself is warm and welcoming. The best Italian restaurant in the NYC area is not in the city; it's in Clifton!
Always a delicious meal and great service at Matthew’s.
This was my first visit here to celebrate my birthday. The place did not disappoint. Service was great, the atmosphere was cozy and romantic for 2 and the food was excellent. I will definitely be back and highly recommend it!
I ate dinner at Matthew’s on Halloween with a friend. The whole experience was wonderful. We were greeted by Matthew who was very welcoming. Our server - Stephanie - was a gem. She was personable, attentive, and efficient. She made us feel like we were old friends. The food was exceptional. We had Pasta Fagioli, Crispy Calamari, Cavatelli and Broccoli, Linguini Frutti Du Mare, Italian Cheesecake and Chocolate Birthday Cake. Everything was cooked perfectly and the desserts were delicious. I highly recommend Matthews and will return the next time I am in the area.
If you’re a fan for large portions and excellent customer service, you should definitely check them out.
We were greeted and promptly seated and service was prompt throughout the entire meal. We didn’t have to ask for anything they were able to read between the lines on what we needed.
Bread was warm. The caprese salad was fresh was the perfect dressing to match. Had a nice tang while not being sour. The clams with the white sauce had a nice thickening sauce but in two of the clams, I got bit on some hard particles and left some dirt. Both pasta entree were large portion. The rigatoni was in various degrees of done-ness, some soft some el dente and the braciole was kind of chewy. Spicy sausage and meatballs was excellent. It took a little of time between apps and entree.
We finally finished with the homemade Tiramasu and it did not disappoint. Yum!
Overall, really impressed with the top notch service and would be interested in trying out some of their other pasta/meat dishes next time.
