Local Smoke BBQ - Cookstown JBMDL

Im not a person to leave a poor review like this but I have to be honest here. We were in the area looking for good bbq and took a chance. Other than the brisket, the food was TERRIBLE. Ive had bbq from the south, the midwest and this was just bad. B.A.D BAD.

The Mac and cheese was bland, overcooked and had little to no cheese and whatever cheese there was it was completely separated and curdled. No taste at all. Kraft Mac an cheese is better tasting then that and that says something.

The coleslaw was just basically a bowl of cabbage and no mayo or flavor at all. no love or effort put into it at all.

The pulled pork you can tell had been sitting out and bland with a foul taste. Not juicy or flavorful what so ever.

Plus the cooks or whatever are just hanging out infront of the restaurant hanging out like it was a party. BUT the woman at the counter with blonde hair was very nice.

Sadly can say, stay away from this place, it was just downright bad.

I had a very disappointing experience here while picking up a DoorDash order. When I walked in, the cashier made eye contact with me but didn’t greet me or acknowledge that she’d be with me. I didn’t want to interrupt since she was helping another customer, but when that customer paused to look at the menu, I politely asked if I could please grab the finished DoorDash bag sitting behind her.

Instead of simply handing me the order, she snapped at me with, “Can you see I’m helping another customer?” — even though the customer was still reading the menu in silence. She then made me wait the entire time the customer decided what to order, all while my order was ready to go.

If your restaurant is going to partner with DoorDash, drivers should be treated with at least basic courtesy and respect. We’re on the clock too, and simply handing over a bag takes only a few seconds. This experience was unprofessional and extremely frustrating.

My Dad and sister told me about this place, and I had the food prior to my first visit. The food was great so I decided to give it a ride out on the Goldwing. Great experience!! 💯 Food is Amazing! Gotta bring my Riders out here soon! Highly recommend 👌🏿. My Football Parties will be well known here.

Wonderful customer service!!! Idk why, but it fills my heart when we're acknowledged when entering an establishment. It speaks volumes. Anywho. I see why they received an award because this is a fall off the bone kind of place. The chicken and green beans were my favorite. Ohh and the mac n cheese was da 💣. Everything was DELICIOUS. You can't go wrong with anything you order. It's all. Fall off the bone delicious. Thank you for the wonderful service.

Food was mid at best. Ribs were not good if you are lookingbfor the TX or NC BBQ taste. The catfish was overcooked. It is the only BBQ place around sooo...

Great place for a good meal! Loved the catfish and brisket was a little dry but, overall well done! Wanted to try the Pit Master Chili but, it was sold out. Mostly for a good reason because it’s delicious!

Only place I go to eat when I’m down here. Brisket is always amazing, sides are great and the customer service is awesome. Only thing to look forward to when coming to Cookstown is LOCAL SMOKE!

Stopped in for lunch and the house was full of Soldiers and Airmen. Clearly a local favorite. Yes they offer a military discount. I had the good fortune of trying brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken, chili, and roasted brussel sprouts. Literally everything was great. Just order the food at the counter and pay then they deliver it to your table. Clean efficient and again so worth the price even without a discount. I would definitely go here again.

Since Local Smoke BBQ in Cookstown went to a la carte menu… lunch is no longer affordable… average price is now $23-$28 …when they had combination platters they were a good value…I think it’s not a popular business model as you can tell their lunch business has dropped… especially being right outside of McGuire Ft.Dix… there are a lot more places where you can get lunch under $20…
