Sazanami Hamba-Gu is a Japanese hambagu restaurant in Edgewater, a reasonably priced new addition that is quickly becoming a go-to spot. The menu focuses on mastering one thing, offering the Hambāgu meat set and a katsu set. Each set comes with chawanmushi, miso soup, a small salad, rice, and veggies. The hamba-gu, an Asian-style hamburger without a bun, is incredibly juicy and tender, with the quality truly speaking for itself. The original patty, made with ground beef and pork, is a favorite, but there is also a 100% angus beef option. A lot of toppings and six sauces are available to choose from, with popular recommendations being the gorgonzola, oroshi ponzu, and chimichurri.
The food is absolutely delicious and top quality, with good portion sizes. The chawanmushi is a particular highlight, a dish not commonly found in restaurants. For appetizers, the ebi fry, karaage, and yuzu tomato are superb and highly recommended. The atmosphere is clean and cozy, and the staff are super nice. It is also a BYOB establishment. Be aware that each hamba-gu is cooked to order, so it takes a little bit of time, about 20 minutes, but it is worth the wait. Parking is a bit of a hassle, but also worth it. This is a great spot for an enjoyable lunch or dinner, and customers report they will definitely be coming back for more.
