I recently attempted to order a custom cake for my birthday and had a very disappointing experience. When I visited the store I was told I couldn’t place an order in person and needed to use the online portal instead. I followed those instructions and submitted three *inspiration* photos for one cake only to be quoted for three separate cakes.
To clarify the confusion, I asked if there was a number I could call since speaking directly with someone seemed far easier than communicating back and forth online. I was given a number and spoke with an employee named Thomas. During our conversation, it felt like my inspiration wasn't being understood. In an effort to get clearer guidance on what we were discussing, I asked, “If this was a cake you were ordering for your own birthday, how would you do it?” He replied, “I wouldn’t order any of these for my birthday.”
That comment was unnecessary, rude, and unprofessional. I even told him as much, to which he responded that he was “just being 100% honest.” I wasn’t seeking personal honesty, I was looking for professional advice and creative input from someone experienced in cake design.
When I mentioned a piping color I liked, I was told it “wasn’t on the list,” even though I wasn’t provided with any color list to reference.
I’ve been a loyal La Bon customer for about seven years and have always enjoyed the cakes and baked goods. This was my first time trying to order a custom cake, and unfortunately, the process has been unnecessarily frustrating from start to finish. I’m a very easy going customer who's flexible with the creative process, but this experience fell far below the level of professionalism anyone should receive.

La bon did an amazing job on our wedding cake! It was GORGEOUS and looked exactly like the inspo we sent them! It also tasted delicious!!!!! The tasting was also very easy to set up (we opted for the at home tasting). 10/10 would recommend!
